Obviously red ball cricket is romanticized. But I don't agree when you say that there is a lot of respect in playing test cricket and major players want to play it. Test cricket remains popular only among the generation that is over 40 years old. And even they watch it  only when a major series, such as the Anderson-Tendulkar, Ashes or the Border-Gavaskar is scheduled. Players who prefer red ball cricket are very low in number, as most of them prioritize the franchise T20 leagues.

When modern cricket was born in the early 18th century, the matches were played for an unlimited period of time. Then in 1877, the first Test match was played between England and Australia in Melbourne. About 100 years later, in 1971, the first One Day International (ODI) was played. And 32 years later, in 2003, the T20I game began.
Maybe Test cricket is not as popular as it used to be, but Test cricket is still considered the most respected format. In this context, we can see that every player of a team dreams of playing as many Test matches as possible.
Even now, when Test matches are played between big teams, a different kind of madness is seen in cricket.
This old format of cricket lives on with the old culture of cricket for thousands of years.

New Zealand/sl are in transition period but players are coming, will even add pakistan in the list although not much success to show for but test cricket has value among players.

Yes, IPL and Franchise cricket has it charm and it's effecting the player's choice in regards to career but it's no where causing sudden death of test cricket.

Maybe some of the players who are close to retirement may chose to retire from the limited overs cricket, and focus on the red ball cricket. But under current circumstances, I don't think that any of the younger players may chose that option. Red ball cricket takes far more time and effort, and the returns are nowhere near the T20 format. And outside pig-3 and maybe South Africa and New Zealand, it is difficult to find players who focus more on red-ball cricket. And IMO, test cricket is on a freefall among the younger age groups. The impact of this will be felt in the next 10-15 years.

Yup and yup, that's why ICC can't stop funding to test nations (non performer), in their cookoo land they want everyone to play test cricket, they can't fund each and everyone but they are trying their best to keep things alive in existing test nations but not successfully though.

Generate fund from white ball and keep test cricket subsidize, that's a funda of ICC and i don't see anything changing in near future. People will keep talking about test cricket dead etc etc though.

Exactly that is right T20 format is more appealing to many young players because of its high salaries and less demanding schedule. Which makes it more attractive career choice especially for players outside major cricketing nations. And Test cricket still holds special place as ultimate test of player skills and is considered pinnacle of sport by many. But its popularity may be concern particularly among younger fans World Test Championship has added new excitement. Next decade will be important for sport to find ways to make Test cricket more rewarding for players and broadcasters to ensure its future.

The most prestigious tournament in the Test format is the Test Championship, where one of the teams, Australia, England, South Africa or India, is always the champion, but if this format can be managed differently, maybe the new teams can do well there.

Do you really watch 5-days in a row? I don't even remember when was the last time that I watched a full test match. Must be at least 2 decades ago, during the Ashes. Test cricket is not compatible with the modern fast-moving lifestyle. Even students and pensioners don't have time to watch these matches now.

T20 is shorter, more popular and richer. So why should anyone with a stable mind go for the longer version of the game? There is a certain amount of romanticism involved in test cricket, but even that is fading out. Test cricket is dead outside the top 5 countries (England, India, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand). And useless matches such as the recent ones involving Zimbabwe would only accelerate the process. The ICC should allow the test cricket to die its natural death, rather than propping it every time.

You are also right that test cricket is really only strong in few countries and one sided matches with weaker teams do nothing to attract new fans. While skills and traditions of test cricket are still important to some your argument that having uncompetitive games only hurts its reputation is hard to argue with.

Ordinary working people can't afford to watch entire matches. The only ones who have the luxury to do so are probably pensioners. When I was in college, I had a lot of free time and I used to watch test matches. But here in India, the college education has changed now. Students need to spend a lot more time on studies, and also they need to prepare for competitive exams. Test cricket has simply become incompatible with the modern lifestyle. And the quality is also declining, due to teams such as Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

IND-A Women vs AUS-A Women unofficial test match start today. There was a lot of delay in the day due to rain. We could only witness 23 overs in the match and the Indian Women A team has lost 5 wickets for 93 runs.

This is indeed a bad start for them especially when we know that they won the ODI series. Raghvi Bist is batting on 26 runs and he is the only player left to take this innings long on the 2nd day. However, It will be difficult for the Indian team to come back after this poor start.

Due to rain India A survived day one otherwise they will be all out. Georgia Prestwidge got three wickets for Aussie A and from India A side Shafali Verma scored 35 runs. It's an unofficial test but still it show how weak Indian A batting is in front of Australia A bowling. It looks like India A will be all out tomorrow under 200 runs and it won't be a big task for Aussies to chase that.

New countries are allowed to play ODIs and T20s but they are not allowed to play Test matches easily, that is why the Test format is considered a prestigious format. Many countries have been playing Test cricket for a long time, but the popularity of Test cricket is seen only when the Ashes series is held and England and Australia compete hard in that series. The Ashes trophy is very prestigious for Australia and England, the Australian and English players consider this series as a big tournament like the World Cup, which is why they do not give up a single point on the field. When the big teams play Test matches, there is real interest in the game, but when other teams play the Test format, the Test format seems boring to us.

The way the Indian Women batted, they performed below par. This is not to say that they are so weak that they would lose to the Australian team. They have won the T20 series so it was expected they could show a better performance. Maybe the weather and the rain make the pitch difficult to bat. They lost their two wickets when the score was only 6. Nandini Kashyap and Dhara Gujjar both got out with troubling the score. This added pressure on the batting line-up and they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.

Agreed. Nothing is going to change and I have given up. From my side what I can do is not to watch matches that involve teams outside the top-5. But this is not going to be good for cricket as a sport. The massive amounts of money that is being wasted in test cricket can be easily used for spreading cricket in regions such as Africa and Latin America. BTW, I am eagerly waiting for Ashes. This year's edition is going to start on 21 November 2025. And it's going to be exciting. And in the same month we have the test series between India and South Africa.

According to the current performance of Australia A Women, India is still in a good position. If they want to move forward, they will have to put more pressure on Australia A Women. And for this, the responsibility is more on the bowlers. Captain Tahlia Wilson is batting with enough responsibility in the Australia A Women team. Even though the team lost two wickets, she is trying to recover from that situation. But i have to say that If one or two more wickets fall soon, then the match seems to be in control of India A Women team.

Bowled out for 299. And looks like they will be able to get the first innings lead, as the Australian women are struggling at 158/5. Indian lower order added a lot of valuable runs, and that was the turning point. They recovered from 136/6, to 299 all out, with Radha Yadav, Minnu Mani, VJ Joshitha and Titas Sadhu all contributing to the total. For Australia, Maitlan Brown and Georgia Prestwidge were bowling with good discipline, but they didn't got much support from the other bowlers such as Lilly Mills and Ella Hayward.

Indian A women did had a good start on the 2nd day today. As we know that they were struggling under 100 runs with five wickets down but the remaining batswomen showed a good effort and help the team each a good total. I was expecting that they would make a maximum of 150 to 180 runs, but they gave the target of 299 (almost 300), which is really good, and all just due to the Raghvi Bist's 93 runs.

She was playing in a good way and also teaching other players how to make partnerships and stand for a long time, and at the end of the day scored good. Now the vibes are coming in favor of the India A women's team.
