So far, England have not won a single one of the three Test matches, meaning there is a chance for England in the fourth match, but it is only a matter of time whether England can capitalize on that opportunity. However, England have started their second innings and they have started well, especially scoring 13 runs without any wickets falling. Now it is not possible to expect a win without just good performance and partnership building from England.

You are right in saying that this is the big chance of England to win after long series of losses. On old pitch, target of 175 runs is hard task and England needs to build good partnerships other than trying to play too quick. England bowlers did great job by getting Australia out at 132 and the openers gave team with good start it needed. Game is very tense at the moment, with England standing at 77/2, which means that they have to score 98 more runs to win. Jacob Bethell and Zak Crawley are on the pitch and I hope they will make a good partnership to win this match.

We saw some strange batting from both the teams. And it seems that england will face defeat in this match too. England team  lost the first three matches  of the series. And the main reason  for their defeat was bad batting.

Australia could only score 152 runs in  the first innings. I did not have high expectations from England. Even then I thought they would be able to take the lead and score close to  200. But England team scored only  110 runs in the first innings. They were behind by 42 runs.

There were a lot of twists in this match, as when any team batted we thought they had a better chance of winning and then they disappointed with their poor batting. Australia were even worse in batting in the 2nd innings and they could only make 132 runs. The captain Steven Smith stayed not out at 24 runs but he saw other batsmen losing wickets and he could not do anything.

Nevertheless, the England team avoided the whitewash.

Yes, your prediction would be 4-1 instead of 5-0, especially since so far England has won one of the four Tests between Australia and England, making it 3-1. If Australia had scored another 50 runs in the final match, England might not have been able to win, especially as they lost six top-order batsmen to score 175 runs. Australia were completely devastated in their second innings, losing three crucial wickets from 82 to 88 and three more wickets from 119 to 121, which meant they could not set a winning target in this match.

Big moment for England team, just came to know that for last 15 years England team is only losing or ending test in a draw in Australia. Due to  minefield nature of the pitch the match ended on Day 2. Australia got a lead of 42 runs in first innings but England bowlers did a good job by allowing Australia to score only 132 runs in second innings and England have to chase 175 runs in second innings. Tongue was man of the match for picking 7 wickets. England today ended there 15 years of drought in Australia and they will be playing Sydney test with high hopes of winning.

I thought Eng will crumble again when Joe root got out but they managed to survive and win this match with 4 wickets. So they can be happy about not being whitewashed.

Criticism mostly came from indian pundits and Kevin Peterson. I was listening to comms, every one did critisied the pitch but it was like a footnote.

In contrast, it's death of test cricket when it's subcontinent pitch especially deck in India. They throw words like doctored, disservice to test cricket etc etc but 2 tests in this series lasted for 4 days combined and no one bats and eye.

PS: not a single over of spin, imagine the scene if there's no over of seam on subcontinent pitch.

Short Test matches are not good for business and it causes financial loss. These were the words from Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg. It does not matter that how many fans came through the stadium, when 20 wickets fall down at the Boxing day Test match, he had sleepless night because it is about another multimillion loss for them.

Cricket Australia already loss AUD $5 million in the two day test game at Perth test. He said that pitches are too friendly for the bowlers, it should be balance for both sides because Australian cricket already facing money problems.

I guess flat pitch is more better than other kinds for the better of test cricket now. In the last 3 or 4 years it's hardly 30-40% test matches went for 5th day that means audience will lose their money and revenue loss for broadcaster so providing flat pitches atleast will make the test entertainment with run paradise and over the days the pitch will assist spin on 4th and 5th day so teams even with 1 spinner can help the team to win with their bowling.

Cricket Australia are screwed royally due to this Ashes causing a big loss for them surely after watching 2 tests out of 4 finishing so damn quickly. England finally ended up winning after a long, long time surprisingly avoiding a whitewash out of nowhere.

I guess flat pitch is more better than other kinds for the better of test cricket now. In the last 3 or 4 years it's hardly 30-40% test matches went for 5th day that means audience will lose their money and revenue loss for broadcaster so providing flat pitches atleast will make the test entertainment with run paradise and over the days the pitch will assist spin on 4th and 5th day so teams even with 1 spinner can help the team to win with their bowling.

Absolute road are worst tbh, no one wants to see 1500-1700 runfest in single test, it's boring af and I comparison 2 days test are more entertaining.

Balance should be there and it wouldn't look that bad if match gets over with in 3.5/4 days. Also one major factor is in t-20 era, many batters did lose the grinding mentality in the red ball, be it on spin or seam swing tracks, hence more batting collapses.

I agree with your assessment. The failure of Australia was largely because they failed to run enough number of runs on board during the second innings. The quest of 175 in a test match is never very demanding, considering the fact that a team such as England was well aware that the series was already beyond rescue and could play without any pressure. A score of above 200 would have entirely altered the mentality and compelled England to adopt a more conservative strategy. Although in the second inning, Australia was doing better than in the first, the damage was already caused in the earlier part of the match. To England, the victory is quite an important one morale-wise, since it demonstrates that they still can compete with Australia on a good level, even though they lost the series as a whole.

Finally, England have their first win, and it's a surprising me. It almost feels like Australia let it slip, with such a low second-innings total, as if they handed England the fourth Ashes Test to avoid a clean sweep. No matter what, Australia have already retained the Ashes, and England are now at least trying to reduce the embarrassment.

The key fact is that England have finally won a Test match in Australia after nearly 15 years. Anyway Test wicket, match wrapped up in just a day and a half.
