Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI

Sri Lanka toured Zimbabwe to play two ODIs and three T20Is. Today will be the first match of the ODI series. We know that Sri Lanka is a relatively stronger team than Zimbabwe, so Sri Lanka will be ahead in this series. Now if I have to predict today's match then I will put Sri Lanka ahead. Because Sri Lanka has won 4 matches in the last 5 head-to-head matches and 1 match has been cancelled. But the Zimbabwean team will play at home, so they will get a bit more support. However, Sri Lanka is more likely to win based on performance. Now let's see how well Zimbabwean players can do.

Zimbabwe finally seem to have found a team they could play with. Even though Sri Lanka set a large target of 299, Zimbabwe too are playing really well.
Sri Lank batting first, had a decent game where they played slow and saved wickets for the last 10 overs where Janith Liyanage and Kamindu Mendis played aggressive to get to near 6 runs per over mark. It was supposed to be a huge target for Zimbabwe but they too are showing great performance. If they be able to continue this performance and the middle order be able to continue this, they could win it.

~ Zimbabwe is now batting in the second innings and till the last news, they have scored 74 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 15 overs. Zimbabwe came out to bat and lost 2 wickets in the first over. Currently, Ben Curran is at the crease for 41 and Sean Williams is at the crease for 30 runs.

Zimbabwean batsmen have surprised me in the 3rd wicket partnership. They have made a great comeback despite losing two wickets in zero runs. Both batsmen have scored half century already, and their partnership is 110+ runs now. Still, I believe that Zimbabwe will lose the match. The required run rate could be high in the last few overs. Also, I think we will see a collapse in their batting line-up when this partnership will be broken.

yeah this  tour without Hasaranga is a major storyline, other hand  Zimbabwe Cricket is making a statement by wisely using ICC funds.  i could see he is out with an injury, and it appears that he will not play in this two match series in Harare.  so a 16 man team led by Charith Asalanka includes newcomers Janith Liyanage & Nuwanidu Fernando.

The pitch has been challenging however Sri Lanka currently has a commanding 298/6  its has been possible only for explosive innings from Kamindu Mendis (57), Liyanage (70*) & Nissanka (76).  At 143/4 & pursuing 299, Zimbabwe is struggling.  It is a big moment for them to steal a couple matches...)

One-Day Cup has reached to its Quarter final game in which Hampshire defeated Middlesex by a big margin. Hampshire opener Nick couldn't survive for long and end first partnership at 45 runs. The opener Ali completed his century with 12 boundaries further game was progressed by rest of the team. The middle order couldn't deliver their peak performance so 9 wickets were knocked out for a target of 229. Middlesex took a start with 19 runs partnership but the opener Nathan and one down player Sam made brilliant runs. Middlesex lost this game unfortunately because of the negligence of the middle and final orders as just one player from final order could score 39 runs while rest suffered. They couldn't chase the runs and lost this game by 42 runs.

Congratulations HAM team for winning the Quater Final match of One Day Cup tournament. The Quarter game between HAM and MID was took place at Brunton Memorial Ground. MID team won the toss and elected to bowling first. HAM team set a record runs   229/9 and won the match. MID chased down total runs 187 and losing the match. Hopefully  HAM will play good and won final match in this 2025 tournament. MID team played a very bad match especially in batting their stupid performance lost This game. The best bowling performance in the HAM team was showd by Ali Orr  scored 108 runs and 140 balls hitting 9 fours and 3 sixs. Congratulations to HAM team for their upcoming matches and won game of One Day Cup tournament.

Zimbabwe are very unlucky. I would have been happy if Zimbabwe could have won this match. But unfortunately they lost the match. Sri Lanka won because of Dilshan Madushanka's excellent bowling in the last over. This Sri Lankan bowler took 3 wickets in the first three balls.

It was a crazy experience, I thought Zimbabwe would lose this match without any competition, but they played a very close match. I didn't watch the whole match, but I got a chance to watch the last over, and they were in a very good position where they had four wickets and only ten runs left in one over.
But with Madushanka taking two wickets in a row, they no longer had the batsmen to hit hard, which resulted in Zimbabwe losing to Sri Lanka by just seven runs. I actually give credit to Madushanka just as I would give credit to Sikandar Raja for this win. If he hadn't taken the last wickets, I don't think Sri Lanka would have won this match.

Although Zimbabwe played comparatively better than Sri Lanka, they were defeated in the end by a hat-trick disaster.

To be honest, we did not expect Zimbabwe's batsmen to bat so well. After Sri Lanka gave a big target of 299 runs, we thought that Sri Lanka would win very easily. And they would definitely win by a big margin. But the match was very exciting. If Madushanka could not take 3 wickets in the last over, then Sri Lanka would have lost this match.

Zimbabwe lost two important wickets of Bennett and Taylor before scoring any runs. But then Ben Curran and Williams built a huge partnership of 118 runs. Also, Sikanadar Raza played an important innings of 92 runs. Munyonga was unbeaten on 43 runs.

We did not see a good performance from Sri Lanka's bowlers. Dilshan Madushanka bowled well only in the last over. He also took one wicket in 9 overs for 60 runs. But , Dilshan Madushanka took three wickets for just 2 runs in the last over. And this one excellent over is why Sri Lanka won.

Considering they were 0/2, overall it turned out to be great effort and they can take lots of positive from this game. Lanka needs to think about their bowling combination. No disrespect to Zimbabwe but Its not a good sign when Zimbabwe giving you hard time.

But whatever you say, every player on the Sri Lankan and Zimbabwean teams tried hard enough and played very hard to finish the full 50 overs and not be able to prevent the other side from playing the full 50 overs in the same way indicates good performance on both sides. ODIs are a long game and it is always a pleasure to watch those matches when both the teams finish the match with a very close margin. The Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe match was one such match.

Yup I thought that Zimbabwe had their chances in this match specially when they were chasing the 298 runs. First they gave away too many runs as they could not take wickets in the dept when J Liyanage made 70 not out in only 47 balls and also Mendis made 57 runs and that was another fast innings.

While battling there were some great innings by Sikandar Raza and BJ Curran but no runs by one of the opener and BRM Taylor made the chase difficult and in the end they lost this game.
