HCP, after you experiment with this wallet, can you compare it with Electrum Android?
You know, I was never crazy about Electrum for Android and I couldn't put my finger on exactly why.  It functioned fine but just wasn't appealing to me.  Mycelium I've always liked, and if this Bluewallet is anything like it I shall have to check it out.  Only problem is I currently don't have a smartphone to download the app on, so I'm going to have to write the name down in my little crypto notebook that I keep for just such things.

I'm bumping this for a question: 2 days ago, Google Play informed me about an update.
Since then, Bluewallet doesn't work anymore. I see the logo, followed by a white screen.
Then again, maybe I won't check it out (lol).  Hopefully that's just a glitch.  Nah, when I get another Android I'm going to see about downloading the wallet.  I don't use bitcoin too much from phones, but there are times when I love to check out how much btc I own.  I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about.

Loyce, is your phone rooted? We may be able to try some stuff if it is.

Or if you have another phone, you can try installing an older version of the app, then update it, install the old version again and see if it overrides the app data (such as wallet and channel state).

It's not rooted.

I tried installing Bluewallet on a completely different Android device, with a different Android version, and that one gets stuck on a white screen too! I don't even get to the part where it asks to create a wallet.
I have no experience installing older versions, and I try not to install anything outside the Play Store.

Because of this:

The address is a seg-wit address created with an uncompressed private key. This means that the outgoing transaction is considered "non-standard".

no, if the address was indeed created using an uncompressed public key then it is considered invalid and your funds are irretrievable.

Maybe a Bitcoin Core dev can adjust some code so it can be retrievable?

bitcoin isn't centralized to be controlled by bitcoin core devs so that they could adjust some code and change consensus rules with a snap of a finger!
what makes your output unspendable is consensus rules that dictate SegWit outputs must all use compressed public keys. in order to change that you have to create a fork and get the majority of the network to accept that fork.

i am curious, how did you create this address in first place?

Old version of Bluewallet for iOS (Android also had the bug) it let me create it without error-catching it.

They refuse to own up to their mistakes or even acknowledge it.

I would keep away from bluewallet for a bit.
If the OP really did nothing "wrong" but bluewallet did then it's a big flag for me.
As with everything YMMV

-Dave

After contacting a dev on Telegram, it turns out it's a known bug. They hadn't been able to reproduce it yet, but after I mentioned my Android version they did. So I expect and hope it to be fixed in the next release.

I saw the topic, and can't help but think it's just plain dumb to put close to 6 BTC in a phone wallet. I haven't looked for their conditions, but usually software has a standard disclaimer saying it's delivered "as is" with "without warranty". I don't think this is much different in other wallets if something goes wrong.

I'm only using BlueWallet for small amounts anyway, and wouldn't recommend to use any hot wallet for storing large amounts.

Haven't had too many issues with Bluewallet... even got a few sats in the lightning wallet to play around with... if anyone wants to "test" Lightning... feel free to hit me up for some "pico cents" Tongue

I'm on Android 9 (Nokia 7 Plus), and never noticed any real issues with the app itself, so I assume it was due to the older Android version causing the issue?

Quoting myself again for an update: it's fixed! No more white screen on Bluewallet 4.2, and my balance still shows.
Update: this was the version I installed from Bluewallet's Telegram. After installing the latest version from the Play store, it doesn't work again.
Another update: it works again.

I also found out about a backup-option for (custodial) LN funds. To get there, click the menu once you're inside a LN-wallet. I haven't tested it, but this should help restore the wallet on a different device if something fails.
