If in your opinion being requested an ID by the state-owned institutions/companies is a normal step, for me it is not. Doesn't it basically stand against the purpose of Bitcoin?

Let's not fool ourselves, Croatia is a member of the European Union, and must obey the laws which apply to that same union. Just imagine that you can step into state-owned institutions and convert cryptocurrency to fiat without any ID, it could be said that the state allows legal money laundering in this case.

It is wrong to mix the purpose of Bitcoin with fiat laws and regulations, when you convert crypto to fiat you are moving into a completely different category. It is beyond all logic to believe that any country will allow anyone to buy or sell crypto without verifying its origin, which is still possible today.

If you want anonymity and privacy, don't convert crypto to fiat, or at least find a way to do it without giving your ID/KYC.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Any move forward to mass adoption is good enough for me. There are many people who may wish to use this new service and it may be very convenient for Locals too who want to park some of their cryptos for fiat in a variety of ways and not just through one channel alone, or one card, which is all good in the long term in my humble opinion. The more options people have to spend and exchange their Bitcoin, the better it is and also this is like another form of soft marketing so Kudos to the Croatians who have got it more together where BITCOIN is concerned and helping their Citizens get more BITCOIN Savvy by offering this new service. Some people may not mind paying the service fees, which might be cheaper than having to always convert via other means.

Personally, in my opinion this offer is very good step for mass adoption of crypto in Croatia.
Before I talked about crypto to many of my friends but they wasn't impress about it and they thought it was another scam on the Internet.
Now, when I told them that as pilot project Croatian post offered crypto exchange they changed their attitude and became interested in hearing more about bitcoin and crypto Smiley
Of course, those who care about anonymity will not sell bitcoin in the post but for others it will be proof that btc and crypto are legal.
I would like to hear from user Dzoni, Nikola Skoric, CEO of Electrocoin d.o.o. company behind this pilot project with Croatian post, about future plans with Post regarding this crypto project.
Any update Dzoni?

Hey Daniel91, thank you for your question! Of course there are plans, we are working hard to expand the service, just as it was announced when the pilot project started. Unfortunately, I cannot say much more than this as the project is still in active development. We will have updates on this in the next few weeks, that I can tell you, and the news will be great! :-)

Dear Dzoni thank you for very good news.
I contacted Post office a few months ago with the same question but received general answer that they will make decision about future of this project based on the results from pilot project in Zadar.
From your answer it seems they decided to continue with this project and to bring it to other post offices in Croatia.
It will be great news for all of us in Croatia and whole btc community.

So apart from being a post office they also offer crypto exchange. Its somehow confusing. How can a post office offer two different services? Well, maybe its part of their income generating strategy. However, if that is so then good for them their government had allowed it. It indicates that they already legalized bitcoin in there own way of exchange services.

You got a little confused, this is project of Croatian post office and one crypto exchange company from Croatia. Post offices simply become physical exchange offices, and an online-only business also receives its physical dimension. The advantages are that you can sell your coins for fiat, and get cash in your hands instantly.

I do not know where you live, but in the EU post offices are much more than the place where people go to send packages or letters. By switching this type of communication to the digital part, they have to look for new ways to make a profit. This is not the only example of national posts becoming crypto exchanges, read from the beginning of thread if you want more information.

Post office is also a shop, you can literally buy everything except food:

source: https://www.posta.hr

And their online shop is even better, you can buy more stuff (toys, TV's, food etc), unfortunately not with BTC but hopefully one day it will be accepted. This project is definitely one step forward.
However, if that is so then good for them their government had allowed it. It indicates that they already legalized bitcoin in there own way of exchange services.
It was always legal Roll Eyes

I think that user Dzoni,  who is also CEO of the crypto exchange company, explained everything very clear in his posts here.
There is no confusion here,  it's simple business.
Croatian Post offered crypto exchange simple because there are people interesting in such service since Zadar is very famous tourist area.
They made deal with one private company and they are sharing profit.
It's simple like that.
Of course it's legal to use crypto in Croatia and Tax office already issued public statement about crypto and instructions how to pay taxes on crypto earnings.

This looks super weird to me, nor legit at all Cheesy better just use one of the popular and reliable exchanges so you can be sure that your money and your personal data are safe. I use CoinDeal and I can honestly recommend it. Just don't trust every exchange, many of them are a scam.

Regarding security, I think better that user Dzoni answer you since he is CEO of the crypto exchange company.
As for the rest, no one is forcing anyone to use this crypto exchange  Cheesy Cheesy
So, if some people are not comfortable to use crypto exchange in the post office, they just won't use it and will find another way to replace their crypto to fiat.
It's simple like that and it's called the free market.
But, this crypto exchange will help a lot in mass adoption of crypto in Croatia and many new people will become comfortable with crypto simple because it's possible to exchange it in the state owned Croatian post.
Such things helps us a lot.

Well, this is only a pilot service launched in three post offices in the coastal town in Zadar which is a spot for tourists. Croatian post plans to launch a nationwide crypto exchange as a step of onnobatiom for their company and do some.things digitally. The pilot which allows cryptocurrency to be converted into Croatia's national currency which is HRK, comes with their collaboration to Croatian electro brokerage and payments firm Electrofirm which operates already for five years. If pilot service became successful, croatia might roll it out to all major towns and tourist spots at croatia.

If the model allows bitcoin to be used in post offices in Croatia successfully, it is possible that countries in Europe will learn.  This is also a free and effective way of promoting Blockchain technology and other cryptocurrency projects.

I have to correct you here.
This project or model will not allow users to use bitcoin in order to pay for other services in the post office.
If someone wants to buy something in the post office or pay some bill for example,  first user have to exchange btc to fiat and after that use fiat to pay for something.
Of course,  it's still great promotion for crypto in Croatia and great step toward mass adoption.

At the very least we could consider it as a form of advertisement and since a well known agency is offering a crypto exchange then Bitcoin would be viewed in new light. The important thing I think is the first impression and through this news then people would be inclined to not judge the book by its cover and provide benefit of the doubt. Though I wish that it would more than an exchange of cryptocurrency to fiat but somehow a time would came that other services would utilize Bitcoin l.

good news, I think Croatia is the first country in Europe to implement that policy. so that the post office can be a place for the development of cryptocurrency. I hope the government there will support it.  Cool

The amount of people who read nothing but the headlines is amazing, and also those who do not understand the basics. You fall into both categories.

Croatia is not first in Europe :

Croatia is not first in this crypto experiment with post offices, similar service is start in Austria, Liechtenstein, Poland.

The Croatian Post is owned by the state, the government has approved this project unless you think that the post staff are doing something on their own Shocked

I also didn’t know,  when I started this topic,  that we already have similar examples in Europe.
Every such project is great for mass adoption of crypto and we should support.
Any way,  we can't say that Croatian government directly support crypto but they allowed crypto exchange in the state owned Croatian post and it's already a lot.
If this project became sucesfull in Zadar, many other post offices in Croatia will offer such service and it will be very good promotion for crypto in whole country.

This looks super weird to me, nor legit at all Cheesy better just use one of the popular and reliable exchanges so you can be sure that your money and your personal data are safe. I use CoinDeal and I can honestly recommend it. Just don't trust every exchange, many of them are a scam.
Hey nutella_11, I'm the CEO of Electrocoin, the company that operates the Croatian Post exchange service. Why do we look super weird to you? IS there anything we can do to prove we are legit?

Nikola Škorić
