if a hacker wants to make money hacking., they would simply use the username and password to hack (obviously) peoples other exchange logins and withdraw funds to their own addresses.

but selling 1million details for only a couple btc total, where as they could hack into user accounts and get thousands... leaves me thinking its just some scammer with no data trying to extort funds from sheeple that panic easily and payout when being blackmailed without any evidence

so if you are one of those people wanting to pay to get your details removed:
1. ask them for the first 3 digits of your password (as most websites only store hashes of your password and not your actual password)
2. spend your funds on something else such as a starbuck giftcard
3. change the password to any service you use that used the same password as mtgox
4. go buy yourself a starbucks with the piece of mind that the information is useless
