More so that when you try and import it, it will be pulled by customs and held and you won't receive your saffron and it will be a pain for escrow and all involved but whatever.

Do you have any experience?  Huh I guess that is true just for bulk orders and USA.
Rest of the world wouldn't have any problem with that.

Well the probability of receiving a package in the United States from Iran is not very high, so your few grams will probably get intercepted and quarantined.  This is how fair and reasonable the US administration is in their thinking and policies.

If you could ship to a mail forwarder in Dubai for example, you should have no issues.
