This will be the first time these two sides have met in the Community Shield, with the Reds being the second-most decorated club in the annual competition’s history, boasting 15 wins, while the defending champions have enjoyed success just five times.

This is a match that largely needs no introduction, such was the ferocity and waspish pace that these two sides went toe-to-toe for the Premier League title last season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were edged by Guardiola’s all-conquering domestic juggernaut by just the single point, while further woe was added to their cause knowing that the highly-coveted gong would have been in the Anfield trophy cabinet in 25 of the previous 27 years – the club’s points tally was the third-highest since the Premier League’s inception in 1992.

They lost just the single match – against City – and had the best defensive record, making Guardiola’s achievements all the more emphatic.

With the new Premier League season just around the corner, fans will be hoping that the club’s top performers and star players from each side are ready to hit the ground running as soon as they take to the turf.

I think Liverpool needs to win this because they have some regrets losing the Premier League only because of their errors.It will be an interesting game for sure and I think we will see many goals in this game because both teams play an attacking football.

Yeah, I kinda get the feeling that City & Liverpool is going to be a rival somehow. Kinda like Barca and Real. They will always want to win the match regardless of whether it's friendlies or not.

I think City has a better chance to win this time around, but with Alisson and other Liverpool's key players back, who knows what will happen. At least they should give an interesting match to watch.

I don’t think too much attention will be paid to this match to determine who wins the title. Both teams have players coming back late from international duty who have join pre season late. The full attention will be given to the PL next weekend. This will be a good match but whichever team wins really proves nothing.

It may not be the most important match in the world, but you and I know that the both teams would be looking to kick off the season on the front foot and a win for either of them would actually do that.

Judging by pre season form, I think Manchester City has the upper hand against Liverpool come Sunday, out of all the pre season games played, city lost Just ones, while Liverpool won just once, this though may actually count for nothing on Sunday.

Pep knows how to win trophies and I think he'll be doing just that come Sunday.

Manchester City vs Liverpool it should be an entertaining game, because of their intense rivalry that we witnessed last season. I have decided to place a bet on Liverpool to win this game and my primary reason is that Liverpool players will be more motivated to win, because they lost the Premier League title to City that too just by a point. My second reason is that I believe Pep may be more interested in defending his Premier League title and not risk his players getting injured, hence he might play a weakened team upfront.

I'm much more interested in the Super Cup, but you know what? I'm ready for this to be a rip-roaring encounter, there's just something special about the season opener, isn't there?

They got their 2/3 star forwards back in last night's pre-season FINALLY and the difference showed, getting a win against Lyon and Bobby as usual poaching.

Liverpool are a tad away from 4/1 to win this, so I've put a tenner. Well, okay more like a niner at the price heh. If that's not good value, I don't know what is!

Community Shield isn't considered as important trophy, but it's not some kind of friendly game and finally we will see serious football. Such match between 2 best EPL teams is best way to start new season. Seems that bookmakers are favoring City to win, but I think there is no favorite in this game. Especially because it's first official game in this season and it's difficult to tell which teams had prepared for it better.

I think Man City will win, LFC top players only just joined up with the squad. Wouldn’t surprise me if Klopp picks an inexperienced side, he will prioritise the PL next week.

Yeah, it's probably reflected in the bookies odds, City had a proper preseason, Liverpool had only 1 game where their main boys were mostly together (and they finally won that one!), but I'd use this warmup game to get all the squad playing together, and go for a big psychological win that anyway adds a nice vanity trophy to the cupboard.

But yeah, with a far tastier Super Cup game with Chelsea sandwiched in between 2 EPLs... I won't blame Klopp for prioritising.

Smartest bet in my opinion is Over 2.5 goals. Odds for Outright winner are realistic so I don't see value there. City seems stronger but Reds won vast majority of recent games against City.
Preseason showed problems in Liverpool's defence; they conceded 2 goals on average. Also defender Clyne is injured. I expect many goals and interesting match.
