From what I've read, tongits is indeed popular in the Philippines however its origin remains unknown. It has similarities with an American game 'Tonk' and Mahjong. But, Filipinos still consider it as their own as it is played by Pinoys in all walks of life. However, if we'll consider Asia as a whole, I'd go with Mahjong.
