I've accrued a fairly large collection of demonetized banknotes (and 1 coin!). Most are hyperinflation but there are a few that were demonetized for other reasons (ie: country ceased to exist, country abolished the concept of money, country confiscated large banknotes, etc).
For me, this was more about the process of collecting these notes and learning about what caused the currencies to fail than it was about actually possessing the banknotes and now they just sit in a closet.
I don't really know what retail price is on them -- I'd guesstimate like $300-$900, not including the time it took to make the collection -- but I'm not interested in selling them.
Rather, I want to give the collection to an artist who can repurpose them into a piece of artwork about the perils of fiat or a similar theme. I don't have any specific ideas regarding the arrangement: ideally, I'd like to just get a signed print in exchange for the banknotes (and my knowledge regarding the history of each note. I did a
lot of research while building this collection). I'm also open to alternative arrangements, such as paying the artist directly.
Below are photos of most of the notes. There are about 20 that are not included in the photos because they're in storage. Even if we can't come to an arrangement, I hope this post provides inspiration to somebody.
Cheers,
SG
