What happened::
I bought a domain with GoDaddy and they canceled the domain without sending any written correspondence about it. Contacted them on social media a while later and they said they sent the refund, which is a lie that I have disputed. They have been unable to provide any receipt as proof that they did indeed give a refund, and the lady on the phone yelled "We don't do that". Shady business practice, to not have invoices of any sort. The reason they "don't do that" is because they didn't refund my money, they kept it.

I strongly caution Bitcointalk users against using GoDaddy, use any other service that takes Crypto instead.

Amount Scammed:
Approximately $500 USD
This includes the ~$5+ cost of the domain, plus a couple hundred dollars for time wasted on dozens on phone calls, as well as the cost of making those calls (phone bills), and of course, the emotional distress the situation has caused me ($495 tops)

Payment method: Prepaid credit card (Vanilla Mastercard)
Proof: Emails from Godaddy which show clearly that I bought the domain
(They do not mail an invoice)

Warning, don't use GoDaddy!

Do you live in Antarctica? Why are your phone calls so expensive?

and of course, the emotional distress the situation has caused me ($495 tops)

Do you think this is the People's Court or something? What does any of this have to do with bitcoin or cryptocurrency?

You were "scammed" for $5. And probably not even that. The mistake was probably on your end. I used them for years - actually over a decade - and never had any problems with them other than they frequently wanted to renew my services.

In short, this is the worst Scam Accusation I have ever seen. I'm docking you 2 merits.

Warning, don't use GoDaddy!
Well I am a GoDaddy customer since 2012 or so, I can not recall any event that happened wrong with me. Their customer service is one if the best team of not the best. They always go extra mile to solve a problem. I certainly doubt they have scammed you.

This hosting, domain, buying privacy, SSL, email service, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited database, renewal, FTP, email notification, billings etc etc are too much to understand for someone who is not tech savvy. Once you know what you are handling then dealing with other party becomes easy.

Quote
Contacted them on social media
Why would you contact them there? Contact them through the contact number in their website or chat with them from there directly. In my long years of experience with them I never even visited their social media, contacting them from there comes later.

Quote
They have been unable to provide any receipt as proof that they did indeed give a refund, and the lady on the phone yelled "We don't do that". Shady business practice, to not have invoices of any sort.
Check your account billing area. You will find every possible invoices there.

Quote
I strongly caution Bitcointalk users against using GoDaddy,

Don't caution something that lacks your understanding.

Quote
use any other service that takes Crypto instead.
Good advice but what guarantee do you give they will not have poor customer service and poor business experience?

You are too annoying here.

Anyway, I am sorry you had all these happened with you but I seriously doubt the fault from there side is much than you. I can guarantee that you have no clue what you have done and wasted those money and time.

I used them for years - actually over a decade - and never had any problems with them other than they frequently wanted to renew my services.
Seems like both of us experienced the same. And I tell you what - it's true about them.

Perfect!
I highly believe that. OP did not have any clue about what he was doing now came here to blame them.

The mistake was probably on your end.

If this was the case, then they would have showed me how the mistake was on my end. They did not do so, however, because again, they "don't do that", according to their Customer Service, which I did call.

I should have made this a self moderated thread, so spammers wouldn't come in here and troll about how GoDaddy is so great

Yeah, are we spammers or are we trolls? Make up your mind, lol. Perhaps we're spamming trolls. Still not as ridiculous as opening a $5 scam accusation against a web hosting company on a forum about bitcoin.

Edit: just saw this got moved to Off-Topic. In that case, its alright by me. Have at it. Hope you get your $5 back, or bring down GoDaddy. Whichever happens first.

It got moved because spammers like you gave the moderators the impression that it was off-topic.

"I used them for years - actually over a decade - and never had any problems with them other than they frequently wanted to renew my services."

Nobody actually gives a shit about this. Make your own thread about how you never had problems with them. This is a thread about how I was scammed.

Seriously, wish the mods were more serious about stopping spam on Bitcointalk. All this shitposting for a few cents.

All this shitposting for a few cents.

Irony isn't your strong suit is it.

You provided zero actual evidence behind your claim. A screenshot of your order isn't proof you were scammed. Its a bit hard to take you seriously.

It got moved because spammers like you gave the moderators the impression that it was off-topic.

It is off-topic. It has nothing to do with cryptocurrency.

You're on a bitcoin forum bitching about $5 from GoDaddy. What did you expect was going to happen? Everybody's gonna sympathize with you and hold you a fundraiser? Maybe you need to start your own support group  Cheesy

I also paid for domain privacy protection which cost $9.99 plus tax. So it wasn't just $5. The thread has been made for information sake.

I know that this thread is a bit old but I have been hearing similar stories recently. It seems that you can’t trust anyone online these days.

When it comes to domain registration I found GoDaddy too expensive and very user-unfriendly apart from all the accusations in this post. They don’t seem to care about people anymore, just how much they charge for their services.

Btw, if anyone is looking for alternatives I think you will be pleasantly surprised with Nominus
