Inspired by: What is the way forward for bitcoin? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=51738.0

We've all seen these signs around the country, as well as their variants:

I particularly like the last one. I envision our very own BitSquirrel logo holding a Bitcoin with the caption Start Using Bitcoin!. I opted for the word "Using" in lieu of "Seeing" or "Hearing" for obvious reasons. If a better word or wording exist, I'm all squirrel ears. Try not to go nuts on me in this thread. K?

I live in NYC, and I've never seen these signs lol

The closest sign I've seen to that in Manhattan is:

Bitcoin pioneer. An apostle of Satoshi Nakamoto. A crusader for a new, better, tech-driven society. A dreamer.

He looks like a puffer fish:

Anybody with to much time on theirs hand could photoshop the Bitcoin logo on a puffer fish. I'll pay 1 BTC for the one I like. Google Image Search for other puffer fish. I'll pay Wednesday.

We've all seen these signs around the country
Which country?

I thought that may be asked when I penned the post, but forgot to include it. The country I was in reference to has a flag with 13 stripes and 50 stars. Perhaps you've seen it.

Upon further research, I found this: http://www.startseeingmotorcycles.org/Secretary.asp

I guess it's not all 50 states. Just a select few. It's still a powerful message.

Here's one as a decal on a car window:

This is one of a banner on the side of a commercial building:

Here's a different twist of one on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewalexander/5493399952/sizes/z/in/photostream/

And one more:

I still envision BitSquirrel on the left holding a Bitcoin (logo) and these words on the right: Start Using Bitcoin!

I just realized we've been down this road before: putting the cart before the horse. Here we are discussing banner ads, bumper stickers, TV, radio and podcast ads, trying to drum up supporters and users prior to having a usable infrastructure in place. It's analogous to us heavily promoting Karl Benz's invention prior to having any highways on the drawing board--we may be able to get everyone desiring a Benz, but where will they go?

I firmly believe the solution lies within this video which has been linked to many times on this forum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0HIF3SfI4

Enjoy!

Exactly, we need to prioritize the features of Bitcoin, then we can bridge them with the benefits. Educating the public will be easier when the features can be shown to benefit them.

Any significantly advanced cryptocurrency is indistinguishable from Ponzi Tulips.

Thanks for posting this video (I missed it so far): it's very inspiring.

I agree with you that the bitcoin community so far is lacking the collective response to the "why" question although the feeling of being overpowered by a non-democratic banking system seems to be shared by most of us here.

Perhaps it can be best summed up by a quote from Bernard Lietaer (economist pionneer of the complementary currencies): you don't have political democracy until you have monetary democracy.
To me, democracy starts with diversity and choice: let's end the monopoly of the banking system over money supply.

Thanks also for the video, I found it inspiring too.

I was also greatly inspired by Falkvinge's 'Unlawful Trade' article -
http://falkvinge.net/2011/06/16/bitcoins-four-drivers-part-one-unlawful-trade/

The main idea that stood out for me was -
"I think Bitcoin and cryptocurrency stands to challenge and has the potential to topple the very notion of unlawful trade, just like the printing press challenged and toppled the notion of unlawful speech."

Bitcoin allows 'Free Trade' in the same way that the printing press allows 'Free Speech'. It's just as big, and just as controversial an idea as "Free Speech" but free trade encourages the creation of wealth, it makes us all richer and raises the standard of living for everyone. I'm here because I believe in Free Trade, and that Bitcoin can give it to us. I hope you do too.

Thanks for the video, I hadn't seen that.

In a practical sense, instead of trying to promote bitcoin, we need to start accepting BTC for our products and services, and use BTC when possible to purchase products and services.
