Social media maybe something that already have it's king. I mean, not means social media aspect is not good. But there are already a lot of big social media that come and for new one, usually need something new. We can see some new site not really famous if compared with those already exist. Maybe blockchain wallet, like integrated with Visa or maybe something like Monaco, or other project that claimed connected to Visa is something worth to try again.

Our world already has some nice start-ups of social media based on the Blockchain. Yes, this trend is still not so much in demand in society, so their popularity is quite low. In case of real use of blockchain technology we would get a real privacy for users...That`s true.
A good idea to rate the popularity and quality of the information presented in such media is cryptocoin. Each user could influence the exchange rate with his donations, thereby showing a real assessment of the project.

Agree. Social media giants like Facebook and Twitter have lot of money, compared with new startups/companies like Steemit, Inc. and Block. One which are just starting to blossom. The aforementioned giants (Facebook and Twitter) could develop a robust social media platform using Blockchain technology whenever they want to. If they do, you could expect them to become superior than many of the well-known Blockchain-based social media platforms of today. Apart from the funding they'll have to support long-term development, they already have a large user base within the mainstream world.

For such reason, I don't believe that Blockchain-based social media platforms will be able to overcome traditional services within the future. There will be a huge gap among both sides (Blockchain-based and non-blockchain-based). Which is why, I'm afraid that platforms will be able to compete against others that fit into their same category. Considering this, we could say that Steem is the leader of the Blockchain-based social media space, while Facebook is the leader of traditional social media. As time goes by, these platforms will become bigger and stronger than ever as adoption grows within the mainstream world.

Nonetheless, Blockchain-based social media platforms can have a bright future with proper funding. Without money, their options will be limited. So far, Steem's been doing great because of its economic model that will ensure it's long-term sustainability. But that's another subject for other platforms like Voice and AKASHA. Just my opinion Smiley

After Blockchain's success within the mainstream world, we've seen various implementations of it into areas of finance, notarization of documents, proof of identity, and more. Yet, one of the most exciting implementations of the Blockchain has been social media, in my opinion. The first-ever social media platform was Steem, but other alternatives started to gain traction after it. We now have AKASHA (ETH Blockchain), HyperSpace (AMP cryptocurrency), and even Voice (EOS Blockchain).

With so many Blockchain implementations of a social network, it's becoming evident that this is the industry of the future. Of course, none of the mentioned platforms have been able to overcome Facebook or even Twitter. But the potential is there, to help change our world for the better. Still though, the number of users within these platforms are not comparable to the likes of Facebook.

Which makes me wonder, if Blockchain-based social media platforms are actually worth it? Do you think there's a future for them? Or are they just a niche? Huh

I expect there might be a future for them, but platforms like Steemit allow you to actually earn by participating, which immediately causes suspicion among people. Everyone wants an easy way to earn a few extra bucks, but when it appears, it sounds too good to be true. And, as most people are lazy by nature, they don't bother with researching and seeing why things are as they are. Then, there's the fact that these social networks are not as popular and well-known. I remember the early days of Facebook, I wasn't interested in creating an account for years, simply because there was no one i knew on it. Back then, simply adding strangers was not really a thing for me. There is also a lack of awareness, definitely. These platforms must offer unique features to the user, something that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and that lot do not have, which is pretty difficult. And even if they did it, new technologies will make people hesitant and confused.

Steemit is a funny platform in the sense to me that when a normal blogger goes onto it, the type of content there is quite spammy. I tried introducing it before and people gave me funny looks.

It doesn't help that the trending/hot articles were always crap posts which got upvoted a lot too!

But I heard they tweaked it a lot recently. That true?

Arguments are being divided. Both side has their point. As for me, if someone would do it and can prove us the purpose and importance of blockchain technology on social medias, then it's good. But for now, since I am used to what different social media offers, I am already contended with it. I don't see blockchain as something necessary for social media, since socmeds can be successful even without it but it could provide better version compare to others, then it's worth it.

What if social media like facebook, twitter prevent you to use their platform for free? What if facebook closes all of the business groups, pages with or withour prior notice? Millions of tiny businesses, projects will be dead. That will create disaster. In my country, thousands of businesses are growing within facebook and people dont even know that their business is actually not their business. They dont have customers, viewers of their own. Blockchain based social network will prevent this major issue

To be honest, I first heard about the fact that there are social networks on the blockchain or something like that, so I understand that they are not popular. I hope the developers of these social networks will spend more money on advertising so that more people recognize them and can compare them with the social networks that exist at the moment.

Social networks on blockchain? Why not. I would like such platforms to appear, because they would be better. As for the number of users of these platforms, then Facebook did not immediately become so successful. I see only one problem, it lies in the fact that social networks on blockchain should be more convenient and safer, and their creators should actively develop them to achieve success. Then there will be progress. Let's see what happens in 5 years, maybe everything we are talking about will become a reality.

of course there will be a future for projects that are truly useful in developing blockchain technology.
as you said even telegrams and facebook they started making digital currencies too. this is a negative response to the blockchain even though we don't know whether this will have an impact on ALT in the future, but this will be a new era for crypto where two social media giants will join in.

But I heard they tweaked it a lot recently. That true?

Apparently Steem's latest hard fork (HF21) has made a few tweaks that aim to make the platform better than ever. It's meant to decrease the influence of bots, while giving more incentives to quality posters. I've noticed a slight reduction in my delgated Steem Power rewards because of this. In the bright side, the Steem platform will be able to encourage people to post more quality content over time. Still, it lacks a large user base unlike its competitor Facebook.

I believe that Blockchain-based social media platforms will simply remain behind traditional services for quite a long time. They might never reach the same level of adoption as giants such as Facebook, Twitter, or even Instagram. These companies have a large sum of money, allowing them to launch a robust Blockchain platform in the future if they decide to do so. Despite this, Blockchain-based social media platforms will head its own separate ways. Steem could remain the leader of the Blockchain space as we know it, while its contenders (within the same categorization) will remain behind it for years to come (like Voice, AKASHA, and even Memo.cash). The platform who brings the most number of users by delivering ease of use, will be the one that will stay on the top no matter what.

Nonetheless, it'll be quite interesting to see many new Blockchain-based social media platforms emerge over time. That's what we need in order to bring alternatives for people who are concerned about how their data is handled. With the power of the Blockchain, users are in control of their own data. That's one of the benefits Blockchain-based social media platforms have in relation to traditional social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter. But the limitations of Blockchain-based platforms (like the lack of scalability and the inability to remain completely decentralized) will not let them overcome the aforementioned giants. Hence, this could be more of a niche than anything else. Just my thoughts Grin

Most persons outside the blockchain ecosystem are not even aware that there are decentralized alternatives to social media, with all the added benefits. It will be difficult at the stage of adoption to see significant usage of such platforms. We need them in the face of ever-growing control and sensor by social media giants such as facebook and twitter.

social media platforms with a blockchain ecosystem might be difficult to use by the general public because there are quite a lot of social media users who don't know about this, coupled with considerable competition in the social media industry. but if the blokchain-based social media is intended for blokchain users it will look lonely unless the platform has features that benefit the user

I think social networks blocked by blockchain is a great idea. The problem is there are more than one of these so which do you choose? They will saturate one another. However, you can get a fairly close community in existing blockchain social networks but I wouldn't call it social networking in the way facebook is since it is more like social networking with crypto enthusiasts instead of anyone in general. So it is still very much used by people like us and not the general public. Once we see the general public start using projects like that then we can get excited and call it a social network.

With a large community, the adoption of blockchain in the platform will be maximized. We all know that social media is transformed as a need to show the existence of modern humans today. Many daily activities are shared, playing games, trading, etc. If all of those activities involve cryptocurrency in the future, for example giving rewards to gamers who are doing live broadcasts with certain viewer limits as a condition of getting a reward, it will definitely be good. And that's what I predict will happen to Libra on Facebook and other connected platforms. So the combination of cryptocurrency, blockchain, and social media is very good to apply.

Now there is a massive data leak, and it is not yet known what all this can lead to, a social network based on blockchain technology will probably partially solve this problem, but then all the information will be available to all participants, there are pluses, but also a lot of minuses

That's certainly true, mate. Many people are still not aware of alternatives to current social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter. This is probably because Blockchain-based alternatives are not doing their duty to promote themselves to the mainstream world. There needs to be proper marketing/promotion of these revolutionary social media platforms in order to help attract people into them. Without adoption, Blockchain-based social media platforms will become more of a "gimmick" than anything else.

I believe that Steem has a better chance of becoming the #1 Blockchain-based social media platform with its economic model. Steem developers have created a self-sustainable ecosystem where people reward quality content on the platform. The vested Steem Power could be used to fund the platform itself. These funds can be used for marketing/promotion if the community allows it. With enough capital, they could spread the word about their platform attracting a large number of people into it. But it'll take a lot of hard work from Steem, if it wishes to take down already established giants like Facebook and Twitter.

Nonetheless, I believe that Blockchain-based social media platforms are still worth it since they provide people the ability to control their own data. It just hasn't found enough adoption from the mainstream world in order to blossom. If it stays that way, then I'm afraid that it'll part separate ways relative to traditional social media platforms we all know and love today. Just my thoughts Grin

Very important in social networks is the security of the data of their users. If social networks are built on blockchain technology, it will be very good. It will also be possible to integrate cryptocurrency into social networks, for the convenience of calculations. Everything would be transparent and safe. I think that in the future there will be social networking platforms built on blockchain technology.
