Obviously Real Madrid won on the week they needed to, because when Barcelona wins, there is no choice but to win for Real Madrid, they can afford to drop points if Barcelona does too, but on weeks where Barcelona plays first and wins, Real Madrid has to win.

They did not have a great win, they barely got by and got a win, because if you look at the game they got the win on the very last minute penalty by getting lucky at the best possible moment. There is no way they can be having this much trouble and have hopes for a title, they need to get better.

That victory was indeed very important for Real Madrid, but we have to admit that Real Madrid played very poorly and this win was more like luck for them. And honestly, I am very doubtful about Real Madrid at the moment. In my opinion, if Real Madrid's management does not immediately look for a new coach to replace Arbeloa, then there is little chance for them to compete with Barcelona for the La Liga title this season. I do not mean to underestimate Real Madrid, but I think that is realistic.

But if by any chance both teams are very consistent throughout the rest of the remaining games , then what's obviously going to separate them is their upcoming classico game,  but I just feels like Barcelona are more in a better place to win the league than this real madrid team that are somehow struggling to win one nil or two one scoreline.

Any team can drop point that Barcelona is playing more better than Real Madrid doesn't mean that they can't drop point, the season is not ending now there are still more games to be played so anything can happen this is football nothing is everly guarantee.

Congratulations on the bet bro. Seriously I was a bit surprised by the 4-1 scoreline, given that H2H wise their matches have almost always been under 3 in recent seasons.

To be honest, Real madrid are very lucky, there is no denying it. Most of the time they are able to get points because of good luck. We have  seen this many times when they scored in the last  minute of the match and won. But it is not only because of good luck. Madrid  are an experienced team and they are confident  of winning until the last second of the match. This is also one of the reasons.
Anyway, it is true that Madrid's performance has deteriorated. If they cannot solve this  quickly , the team will face big problems. Even Benfica in the champions league playoffs will be difficult for Madrid to beat.

I agree with you on your take about Atletico Madrid not striving for something higher other than finishing third place everytime. If I didn't know better, I'd think that the board and management are content with that spot as long as they can play in the UCL the next season. If I'm being honest, Atletico Madrid have got the squad that can compete to win the Laliga if they choose but it's like those slots have been reserved for either Madrid or Barcelona which is not supposed to be considering that they aren't an average club.
 Diego Simeone is a good coach but it's looking like as his age is going, so is his ability to pump some Laliga winning mentality into his boys.

There are players and coaches don't leave a club even they don't have good chance of winning titles. Wenger in Arsenal is a classic example for loyal coach, with players you have many legendary players like Totti in Roma, Gerrad in Liverpool, Joaquin in Real Betis. Such admirable stories become less popular in modern football and Simeone has made a long live career with Atletico Madrid.

He loves this club maybe while the club board member trust him and they feel happy with each other. In many clubs, coaches can win titles but if results become worse in a next season, they will be fired. It's different in Atletico Madrid as they look to give very high trust to Simeone and even there were crisis times, eventually by trusting each other and with good management of Simeone, they went through crisis very well.
