I think you mistook Barcelona for Real Madrid cause Real Madrid's match with Atletico hasn't started yet and would start in the late evening according to my countries time. Barcelona are currently leading and playing better than Rayo, I don't think can equalize cause the match is almost over, they had their chances but couldn't use it well. 1-0 is not what I was expecting from Barcelona in this match but since it's enough to give them 3 points it better than losing losing or draw.

Remember that this is second leg in Laliga between Atletico and Real Madrid, the last one Madrid won was Spanish super cup. The first leg they played with Atletico was brutal and that time they don't have much injured players like they do now. No matter the scoreline, the best thing Barcelona can do this period that this season is almost over is to remain consistent winning Rayo Vallecano keeps them a step ahead of Real Madrid and the margin could get wider if Madrid lose or draw today cause they have a tough match against Atletico Madrid.

You say Atletico madrid's performance is inconsistent. But they have won their last 4 la liga matches. On the other hand, Real madrid have lost 2 of their last 4 matches. Anyway , it is Real madrid's home match, so their chances of winning seem a bit  higher. But winning against Atletico  is always challenging. Because their squad is quite strong. Atletico Madrid won the home match against madrid by a big margin. Real madrid will definitely want to take revenge today. But I am not sure how successful they will be.

Barcelona were dominant, they scored the first goal and after that they only played defensively, rayo vallecano has some opportunities they lost and they didn't seem to do well in the match. I'm only disappointed that Barcelona couldn't score more than one goal in the match but they still secured their three points and now they are seven points ahead of real Madrid, they have a high chance of winning the league title

Barcelona secured a very narrow 1-0 win in the match. My prediction was Barcelona to win the home match by 2+ goals. But in the end they could not score more than one goal.
