They just did not play well enough and in a season when Barcelona are not too dominating, having 4 points less than Barcelona is like showing the weakness and inconsistency of Real Madrid in La Liga this season. Having Mbappe back is good but I think he will think more for Champions League and World Cup than La Liga in remaining weeks and matches in this season.

The opportunity Real Madrid have to take this position from Barcelona has past, because Barcelona have taken the position from Real Madrid and they are using plenty points to top them. No matter what Real Madrid is going to play in the remaining games, they will not have the opportunity again to take the position from Barcelona, because Barcelona have strong players that know how to beat old club and new club to achieve their goals.

How can you say that Barcelona can not continue their winning streak ? Barcelona is in very good form  now. They are consistently doing well in every match. So Barcelona has more chances than madrid to continue their winning streak.

Real madrid is  4 points behind. So if Madrid wants to achieve the top spot in the table, barcelona will have to lose 2 + matches. And madrid will have to win all the upcoming matches. My take is that Barcelona has better chances to emerge as champions.  They have a more experienced coach which increases their ability to win future games. Álvaro Arbeloa interim coach is prone to making more tactical blunders that will cause Real to drop points. Both teams have shown to have the best attack in La Liga. Barca has scored 73 goals while Real has 69 in 29 games.

I think the season is going to be very exciting and interesting as well. Real Madrid is doing good and this potential or dedication from this team has been seen after a gap. Madrid is a good team and they can manage the position they want by just showing a consistent behaviour which is needed to score a good place. Barcelona is on the top and it's a well deserved position of Barcelona as they was really very consistent throughout the season. Madrid still has the chances to fight for the top position as the chances are there. But it will be little bit difficult to push Barcelona one step back. Because Barcelona itself very dedicated and willing to have this position. And I personally think that Barcelona will never let anyone else to have their position.
