They are actually looking to tap with the other institutions ( https://thexrpdaily.com/category/ripple-news/) and hope this would take a lead for its market survival and growth. XRP is still a profitable investment but not just to stop from what it has today instead to find another way to sustain the market demand and also with the market competition as well. 

I hope they make those connections and tap in to other financial institutions so they can expand usage for not only Ripple but XRP too.

I don't think XRP currently has a very profitable goal, usually if it's like this then XRP prices are only used for whale toys they try to outwit traders by making prices go up and after that prices are dropped again, XRP will often do like this, don't to be fooled by such a method because it can make you lose.

I see that the development of XRP in recent weeks is experiencing good developments, I also happy to see this development. but I am more braver to invest in ethereum than XRP.

Why would the average consumer want to buy xrp?

You have a point there. It is not widely used and accepted such as Bitcoin.

The average user wouls probably only buy it to hold on to as an investment to sell later for profit and nothing else.

Speaking of the average users which will buy XRP as an investment and sell it later for a profit. The average users will be a newbie who is yet to understand the basic tactics of crypto investment because the last time I check the coin in the subject don't make many pumps in price even when other altcoins perform well in the market.

The real pump happened at end of 2017 early 2018 when the all time high was around $3.60

There is no such thing as ripple coin, please understand this before you buy xrp.
Secondly, the main aim of xrp is usage, to stop these massive dumps.

You can not buy a XRP you would need to buy Ripple. A lease is not ownership.

Lol even without the announcement of Libra release Ripple(XRP) price was in dipping so don’t blame others for the falling of this centralized currency
But of course from now this Libra will effect the growth of XRP and also bitcoin and other cryptocurrency as well because the popularity of Facebook will auto effect everything .
Though sooner this will also help the crypto to make improvements as people will start to enter again learn how things happening here

They will compete with libra. XRP may not be as stable as they may think but once the price spikes up due to adoption, its going to rise more than $1 which libra may not go beyond. For Now, XRP still has its usage for instance the transferring of funds with very minimum fee. its the main reason why it has the 3rd biggest volume among crypto.
