I just received my Nano S and what a shame I can only install 4 apps and its full. I know I can delete them and install others to transfer coins, but that is annoying. How many apps can you have simultaneously on the Nano X REALLY ? (Ledger says 100 but I don't believe them)

I'm really not sure how many because I personally don't have one(and I don't need more than 2-3 apps anyway, but the bluetooth functionality is definitely handy), but I'm sure it's at least 50(though I don't know why the heck would you really hold that much variety of coins). I haven't heard one complaint anywhere yet concerning the device's memory, so that's a good sign I guess.

According to the FAQ, the Nano X has 5 times more storage capacity than the Ledger Nano S and the number of apps that can be installed totally depend on the size of these apps.

I've never had more than 3-4 apps installed on my Nano S but I have read stories about people using up to 10 different apps. The Bitcoin and Ethereum apps take a lot of space and like ETFbitcoin mentioned if you install apps that depend on the Bitcoin app it is very likely that you can get close to those numbers. If not you will run out of storage.

Honestly, do you really have 50-100 different coins worth keeping on your Ledger? I don't know anyone that does.
It seems like opting to buy a car that goes 260 km/h although you will never need to drive it that fast.

DarthCanada, if you wanted to have more apps at the same time it was logical to buy a Ledger Nano X, regardless of the higher price my opinion is that it is always worth investing in something new and better, and Nano X is definitely better in terms of storage then Nano S. Some data say that Nano S is have only 320kb for storage, while on the other hand Nano X is have 2048kb.

I also think that up to 100 apps in same time is just a marketing trick, this of course depends on the size of the apps installed - but 6 time more storage space certainly allows much greater number of installed applications at the same time.

I've never had more than 3-4 apps installed on my Nano S but I have read stories about people using up to 10 different apps.

It is easy to check if story is true or not, just delete all apps and try to install those :

Well I have the following installed with latest firmware: BTC BCH BTG PEERCOIN ZEC ZEN LTC DGB KMD RIPPLE so 10 apps could not install nimiq as space was full so take it that is the limit

The "up to 10 apps" of the Nano S will be the same as the "up to 100 apps" of the Nano X - if you install the "correct" apps. Install bitcoin and all its forks and clones and you'll be able to fit on loads of apps because they all use the same base code. Install apps from totally different coins such as bitcoin, ethereum, and monero, and you will rapidly run out of space.

There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer yet to how many apps from different (rather than derivative) coins it can hold at once. This post on reddit seems to suggest you can install at least the 20 most common coin apps, which would presumably include BTC, ETH, XRP, XMR, XLM, BNB, ADA (none of which share their base code) and a bunch of others.

Honestly, do you really have 50-100 different coins worth keeping on your Ledger?
This. There aren't even 5 good altcoins worth buying, let alone 50 or 100. Who needs this much storage space? And who is transferring 20 different coins in and out of their Ledger every day that makes the 20 seconds it takes to install a different app such a huge deal?

I have been using my Nano X for a couple of months now, and I have installed multiple apps, just because of wanting to try the capacity. I did not encounter problems when installing the most popular coins. I have arrived up to 10 apps, still no difficulty. I remembered using my Nano S and had reached the limit of the capacity when I installed around four apps if IIRC.

I would still recommend Nano X for everyday use. It's not just the capacity that you should consider.  The portability and the capability of managing apps right in your phone if you need it, it's easy. No OTG cable required, as long as you have a smartphone. I'm not worried about Bluetooth hacking or something, it's not turned on for a long time and it's just a few minutes when it is turned on.

I'm not worried about Bluetooth hacking or something, it's not turned on for a long time and it's just a few minutes when it is turned on.

The amount of time you are using bluetooth doesn't really matter. If you are using it at all, there theoretically is an attack vector.

I say theoretical, because ledger's nano is build the way that even if it is communicating with a compromised device (which also includes a compromised connection such as a hijacked bluetooth connection), it still can not be exploited.
If you double check the amount and recipient address, you should be fine regardless of whether bluetooth or cable is being used to communicate.

Well, all this time I thought that it could be attacked or something when it's active. The chances of that are so minuscule that it wouldn't happen. We are all talking in theory for sure. Thank you for further assuring the incredible device is worth it.  Shocked

The Ledger Nano S is compatible with Android phones via an OTG cable (i.e. a standard USB cable with the appropriate connections for your phone and the Nano S). Ledger Nano X is compatible with Android phones and iPhones via Bluetooth.

Yes you can but like o_e_l_e_o mentioned, you need one of these:

Since your smartphone doesn't have a USB connection you can't connect your Nano S cable directly to your phone. That is where the OTB cable comes into play.

Any micro USB to appropriate-USB-for-your-phone cable will work. Ledger sell a USB cable set here which contains all 3 options, micro USB to USB C, USB A, or micro USB: https://shop.ledger.com/products/ledger-otg-kit. It's quite overpriced for what it is though. You'll be able to get the relevant cable for a buck or two on Amazon or your local computer shop.

It's better to purchase the USB from ledger only as it's durable and plus safe to use. Also, I don't see it feasible to connecting nano S with a smartphone as ledger live isn't fully developed for Nano S users and they can only view the balance (not transact).

Any USB cable is fine. There is literally no point paying 15 bucks for a cable. A $2 will do the exact same job.

Not accurate. Ledger Live Android version is fully functioning with Nano S devices, including sending transactions. It is only iPhones that are restricted to view only.

Not literally any cable.
It needs to have the data pins too, not only the power pins  Tongue

And there are other additional wallets (on android) which support the ledger nano, e.g. Mycelium (fully functional, not viewing only).

I wouldn't worry about it if you meant vulnerability such as Side-channel on Nano S/X display.
Such attack only happens on movie (where you're very rich/important person).

I'm looking forward to the next season of Mr. Robot, wouldn't be surprised to see it there.  Cheesy

Honestly, do you really have 50-100 different coins worth keeping on your Ledger? I don't know anyone that does.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who own multiple altcoins and would like to be able to view their portfolios in full, using a hardware device.  I have to agree with OP's frustration here, though I'm not casting aspersions on the Ledger S--it is what it is.  Personally, I don't own that many altcoins but it would be nice to be able to view more than four at once.  If the Ledger X has that capability (I don't own one), it's an improvement.

I have arrived up to 10 apps, still no difficulty.
Nice.  That would be more than enough for me, and I probably should have bought a Nano X instead of the Nano S.  It was my first hardware wallet and I didn't do enough research before making the purchase, just like when I bought the useless Keepkey.  Oh well.  They aren't that expensive, but I just don't own enough crypto to justify it.

It is really nice, to be honest, I don't really use most of them. Of course, BTC is the most used amongst all the apps that I downloaded unto my Nano X.

For your experience having bought the Nano S, it's also the same with me. I have used Nano S at first then when someone approached me that he will buy a Nano S, I offered to buy with him a bundle of Nano S and Nano X [1], Nano X went to me and I never regretted it. Having two hardware wallets would be too much because I'm not sure what to do with my Nano S now. I'm just using it as somewhat of a "Colder Wallet" if that makes any more sense Lol. I transfer coins that I know that I wouldn't use and just let it stay in it. Nano X is my go-to Hardware wallet, all the time.

It is idea that Ledger is promoting for some time, and I do not see anything wrong in that, except for the fact that for some people is too expensive to buy one hardware wallet, two is just to much. But in case one wallet is broken or stolen, it is good to have one spare because only proper way for recovery is to type seed directly in hardware wallet.

As a user of Nano S for some time, I would also get one Nano X in months that come. Ledger will probably have some discount for Black Friday or later for holidays. Investing in security is never expensive, and that money is well invested.

It is idea that Ledger is promoting for some time, and I do not see anything wrong in that, except for the fact that for some people is too expensive to buy one hardware wallet, two is just to much.
What promotion are you talking about? I'm quite confused about what you're saying. Did ledger promote having two wallets?

But in case one wallet is broken or stolen, it is good to have one spare because only proper way for recovery is to type seed directly in hardware wallet.
This is helpful for sure. It's like it never left you or have been stolen for you. I have thought of something that if you restore your seed in an air-gapped laptop, it's like the same thing, but you have a desktop. I haven't tried recovering my seed in Ledger, and I'm just curious with how you are going to input the seed. Too lazy to search unless I need to.

As a user of Nano S for some time, I would also get one Nano X in months that come. Ledger will probably have some discount for Black Friday or later for holidays. Investing in security is never expensive, and that money is well invested.
I think you would love the experience of having Nano X. Every time you would be going out or something and suddenly need BTC, it's going to be helpful because you could transact using your phone with just Bluetooth. Convenient for me and not bringing an extra cable (OTG)

I haven't thought of that, waiting for the Black Friday sale would be advantageous. I agree with investing in security, and it leaves your mind at peace.
