Giuseppe Conte who was the Prime Minister of Italy has resigned, and he has blamed his coalition partner Matteo Salvini for his resignation. Will the country be plunged into chaos, or will they go for snap elections to restore balance. Another interesting question that arises is what will happen to the migrant ship that has been stranded in the Italian waters, will the migrants on board be rescued or not?.

I'd like to note that he resigned due to the fact that the people within his party were soon going to attempt to Vote of no confidence (VONC) him out of the role. So this is more along the lines of "You can't fire me because I quit"

But yeah -- after 14 months of populist rule the Italian government will see new elections and such.

No one knows where this is going to go -- as it could lead to a coalition of of more moderates OR a new government of further right people. Time will only tell though.

I thnk his coalition partner Mr Salvini made the move purely on the basis of his party's performance in the European Elections where they scored high points and he believes that should an election be held, they are going to gain the majority. For me, it's a really a smart play on his path but the outcome of the elections will entirely determine whether it was the right or not.

Europe is afraid of Salvini a lot.
I think that Italy is going to go into elections to restore the balance of the country. But this decision might be proven wrong if Salvini gets elected and be brought into power.

Could be a smart play, yes. But it could also end like Thersay Mays play when she tried to do the same sort of thing -- straight into the garbager because they overestimated their potential winnings, trusted the polls, and ended up losing in the snap election.

So -- this could without a doubt go either way.

Giuseppe Conte is the best First Minister in the recent years. Salvini is a true silly man, he had managed to rise to the government with half the votes taken by the "fivestars" and now will never govern again. Now will be a coalition fivestars+ democrats

But still, Salvini asks for elections, doesn't he?
If he is not going to rule Italy then what are his benefits of doing so?

one thing is certain, Italy electoral rules are a mess, complicated and prone to abuses

Italian people can't vote directly for the Republic President or the Prime minister, they just vote for the parliament and then the parliament deputies based on vote percentages try to form a government with a majority... Other countries like Usa have two parties, in Italy? we have a shit-ton of parties and micro-parties
there is never a certain Winner after a voting...

This situation has already been 'fixed' in the eyes of those that don't like Matteo Salvini, Conte has been placed back into the role as PM of Italy and he has a new coalition backing him.

Not surprising in the least, though it did seem like that for a couple days that the new coalition was going to be unable to form.

Matteo Salvini's party is still the most popular in italy, and could see a resurgence when the next election comes -- giving them more power in parliament.

The situation in Italy had more drama than GOT season 8, lots of twists and turn and finally Conte is back hopefully he’ll do good work and retain his chair when elections come. There’s no doubt about Salvini’s party being popular, but I feel their reputation took a hit when they decided to withdraw their support for Conte. Only time will tell who is the winner of this feud, because currently we’re back to square one and will have to wait for next elections.

Eh I don't know about that.

I think that for the Salvini party this is a slap in the face to all of the people that worked to elect them. Leaving them with little to no power, and locked out due to a new coalition is something that isn't going to go very well in the eyes of the voters (at least in my eyes)

I guess we'll be able to tell at some point, I'll probably comment back then.

Salvini was at the governance with the 18% of preferences, the 5stars with the 37%. Now the five stars are at the governance with Democrats (18%). It is a number question, and for this Salvini is a big penis

Check out the polls on who the most popular party is -- https://www.politico.eu/italy/

That's showing that this could get very interesting, very fast. Since the last election the 5 star party has crashed in the polls, like CRASHED.

PD and M5S will try hard to avoid new elections, and if elections happen this year then it will be a cakewalk for Lega. LN already has 33% to 37% vote share, and together with Brothers of Italy and Forza Italia they would be able to form a governing coalition quite comfortably (with a combined vote share of more than 50%). What Luigi Di Maio and Giuseppe Conte has done is to sabotage democracy. It is only going to make Salvini stronger than ever before. PD and M5S are having completely opposing ideologies. Even if they form a government together, it is not going to last long. I predict the government collapsing in less than an year, and fresh elections being called. Both the parties will be wiped out.

It would have been better if there was new elections because the coalition between the two parties are still short of a majority and indeed it's going to make Salvini even more popular because this doesn't seem that it's going to work, this is a desperate attempt to postpone the inevitable.

Since the last election the 5 star party has crashed in the polls, like CRASHED.
the same polls that i have seen before the april election of 2 years ago (20% m5s) and then 37%.

Oh yeah, this isn't going to do anything more then just push off what's going to happen next. I think this will actually enrage the voters more, as they're going to feel like their person -- Salvini -- has been stripped of his 'power' (even if he wasn't PM, nor had more members, he is still the most popular party)

So we'll see where this brings us I guess.
