So I have my brother who's showing some interest in BTC. As it has absolutely no use case here (aside from the online world) and he's traveling to Turkey for a vacation, I thought about giving him some mBTC's to spend there.

I've been reading and apparently, Turkey has a lot of crypto users (skeptical). So I was wondering If there are some places where one could spend his BTC at? Restaurants, physical stores, etc. Any places where he could basically spend his bitcoins directly without any third parties (gift card supplier or debit card providers).

https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/TRY/BTC

6 BTC this week in Localbitcoins volume.

Woah.

I recall there was a survey that said 20% of Turkish people were balls deep in BTC. I presume they surveyed 10 people at a Bitcoin meet in Istanbul, and 8 of them were there to use the toilet.

Never in my life have I seen any mention of Bitcoin in Turkey.

I've been reading and apparently, Turkey has a lot of crypto users.

Yeah yeah, there are 20 million Turks holding all the addresses with a balance that exists in the blockchain.
We know, we know  Grin

In my opinion, after fixing the title Tongue, (man that was some real clickbait), and not wasting time on coinmap as the business listed there only give me stuff like:
yunik co’s server IP address could not be found
kriptorazzi com’s server IP address could not be found.
alerbilgisayar com’s server IP address could not be found.

probably it would be better for you to start the topic in the local Turkish section

@bL4nkcode beat me to it Tongue.
Checking more links seems like most of those places are only dealing with fiat<>crypto, not goods that you can buy with crypto.

Coinmap has some results: https://coinmap.org/#/world/38.64261791/34.67285156/7

Most of the links seem to work, tried 5, 4 of them worked. How many of them still accept Bitcoin is another matter, that used to be a problem with some of these stores/restaurants/etc. on coinmap in the past.

Never in my life have I seen any mention of Bitcoin in Turkey.
It's just news outlets as always exaggerating the stats to make Bitcoin look like an in-demand asset in Turkey. The same happened when they were praising Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Kenia, etc. It's just one big media circus.

As what I have seen from Turkish people, they're too afraid to openly mention that they don't have confidence in their Lira, so from there I doubt a lot of people would participate in a survey.

I know a few westernized Turkish people and what they have told me is that their family is mainly buying gold jewelry. It's widely available and buying jewelry isn't frowned upon by either the state or their direct environment.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

@OmegaStarScream @BitHodler

The news was right and it's true using Bitcoin was becoming a little more popular, but only among freelancers, online sellers and a few millennials who tend to hold. But surely nothing compared to the case in Venezuela.

Because, as I recall,  Paypal decided to no longer serve Turkey citizens and that's what triggered people's interest. BTC was welcome as an alternative (then comes the problem with their national currency yeah)

Edit: The news about Paypal in Turkey I was talking about https://techcrunch.com/2016/05/31/paypal-to-halt-operations-in-turkey-after-losing-license-impacts-hundreds-of-thousands/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer_us=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_cs=Gpq9HNQ63ezljnq_llf0Xg
