Forgive me if this is the wrong forum but I see nothing else about exchanges here.

What is everyone doing to get their BTC to the bank in Canada ? or at least to your visa/mastercard ?

I used to use quadrigacx but noticed they recently went bust and the only other place in Canada I can find has horrible reviews and is asking for things like "take a picture of yourself" ..  I think I'll stop taking BTC before I send another one of these scam outfits my picture.  Any tips would be helpful.  I only get about $500 - $1000 /yr in coins.

There are a couple of really good options, shakepay is one I've heard good things about. Check this topic out [CBC] Canadian Bitcoin Conversions - or whatever coin really It's not super active but I'm trying to log offers for coin exchange from Canadian Forum members, as well as Quick option companies. I link to Bylls.com there, I've used them and they are easy. No ID required if you are under 1000$ CAD I believe.

I'm going to give Shakepay a try to at some point they seem to have a lot in the works. Here's the link to the Exchanges board as well.

Personally I'm not from Canada, and through news and articles came to know that Canada is a crypto friendly country. So, it doesn't seem to be a hard task to get the funds in a bank account. We've got localbitcoins providing universal service, and you can use that platform.

Maybe this is a stupid question but have you tried out one of them peer-to-peer platforms? I mean, Localbitcoins has always been to me a good option (so I don't have to leave my money with an exchange) for good rates. A bit clunky and you still have to trust LBC itself but I've really had nothing bad to say about them except some minor complaints like them charging fees for deposits.

If you're really adamant about not giving verification, there are platforms like Bisq. The traders there, they're generally quite blind to your location.

Why don't you use localbitcoins? They have an extensive listing of Canadian traders. See the below link,

https://localbitcoins.com/country/CA

Localbitcoins require KYC but only after you reach a specific volume yearly! You can smoothly start with zero KYC. It has in built escrow facility to make the trades secure.

I've used localbitcoins in the past to good effect. It works pretty well, as long as you can get past the spread.

There are various ATMs (but once again, there's a minor fee).

CoinATMRadar is a pretty decent tool to find ATMs in Canada: https://coinatmradar.com/bitcoin-atm-near-me/

Thanks for these tips and I will check them out.. I was hoping to avoid KYC because that is not what BTC is about for me.  The last thing I'm going to do is verify myself with a shady fly by night outfit that has less money than me.   The ATM's are useless here and only for buying. There is only one in my region that advertises selling but when you call them he sounds like he just woke up and its in the false advertising / bad deal capital of the Canada called mississauga.

The best place seems to be to advertise it on craigslist and find someone local.  I was hoping for a smooth interac withdrawal like quadrigacx used to do before it went all KYC and scammy but that is hard to find now. Probably also the reason I take BTC less and less each year.

You would be wrong, Canada has less people than California, its actually quite bad for BTC. There are a couple of companies that do banking but they are horrible. They appear Chinese owned with a front in Canada and have spelling mistakes on their website.. I've been around long enough to know these are all scams,, they stay around for a couple of years robbing people blind and then one day gone.. just like quadragiacx,, even if its intentions were good the warning signs were there that its a fk up of a company.

Sending fund to may bank has been an easy task with Luno, and they have been so much effective for me, I know they are in UK but I don’t know of Canada, but I am sure if you try to check them out, they might be there too, I also know of local bitcoin, that is still the most popular that seems to cover most countries, I have never used them before but I have heard of very great reviews and recommendations about them, I think you should also check them out.

When it comes to KYC, most of these exchanges are all asking for KYC and that is usually their procedures for that, you just need to find a very reliable exchange first and when you get one, then you will be sure that your KYC is safe with them even if we can't trust anyone when it comes to data selling.
