The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

20 quad core PC's?  On NiceHash that has the potential to earn you $400 to $600 per week, depending on Bitcoin prices at the time.  Calculation based on a $10,000 BTC price.

Zero. Zilch. Nada.

I disagree...

Proof:
1 i7 hashes at 67 Mh/s (source: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Non-specialized_hardware_comparison#Intel)
20 i7's = 20 x 67 Mh/s =  1340 Mh/s = 1.34 Gh/s = 1.340.000.000 h/s

Average dayly income= (((((Hashrate (hashes/sec) * average block reward * 600 * 65535) / 2^48) / Difficulty) * 6 * 24)
In your case (((((1340000000*12.5*600*65535)/2^48/ 10183488432889) * 6 * 24) = 0.000000033 (3.3 satoshi's per day => 0.0003 dollar per day => you'd have to mine for 9 years to make $1... Given you ignore the block reward, diff increase or price decrease )

How on earth did you calculate the OP would ever make $400 to $600?

I have a very new state of the art ryzen 9 3900x cpu.

I use it to mine at nicehash it auto converts all earnings to btc.

This pc earns 55 cents a day in btc.

So if I had 20 of them I would earn 11 dollars a day or 77 dollars a week.

This cpu costs 500 usd. If I worked at a low cost build with it. It could be built for about 850.

the two high-lited  in rectangle are a ryzen 9 3900x and a threadripper 1920x   they do from 1300 to 2400 hash on nicehash  and earn around 85 cents a day

they convert all coin to btc so  it is under 7 dollars a week  add in the gpus it is about 17 usd in btc each week. not counting your power

those rigs = $$$   it would take more then 2300 to build them

Sounds like someone has access to a computer lab at school. You can make a couple bucks, but it is likely not worth the effort. There are better ways to earn money.

And if this is the case, then there is the question: Does the OP have permission from the owners of the PC's to do this? If not - don't do it as that would be illegal on several fronts.

Seems that maybe Bitcoin might of peaked since everyday or so we are getting threads about people wanting to mine Bitcoin with their cell phones and people wanting to mine Bitcoin on their school and work computers.

This is similiar to what happened in Q4 2017 peak where there were people mining ETH in their Tesla's at a charging station. Basically a month or two later the markets started to turn. Wondering if threads like this are a leading indicator of another Crypto bear market.

0.04% compared to how much you spent. So if you spent a million dollar you will get 500 hundred dollars per day, to get your money back you will need 2000 days or so but pay attention cause hardware will break, stop working, no warranty anymore, so in the end luck has to be by your side and you will need to pray every night for mining to survive another day cause mining might die any day and all your hardware will have to be resold to cover loss. In the end you will lose around 70% of that million dollar, if you get luck then you will get back at least 40% of that million dollar or if you get very very luck, i mean 0.01% out of 100% then you will get 100% back but that kind luck is reserved for lottery winners but then again is better to pay the lottery then.

Maybe a little too subtle. Wink

My response is if you have 20 computers try it and find out, if you don't try one computer and
multiply by 20.

As far as abusing company/school resources, go for it. The response from IT should be interesting.
Be sure to tell us all about it.

Your estimate was way over however. Basically the very last time that I remember when CPU mining was profitable enough for 20 CPUs to gain $500 a month was probably during the XZC launch days. Most of you probably weren't around but there was a small privacy coin called Zcoin, not Zcash.

Its launch was big because I think there was a rumor that Roger Ver was invested in it. Anyways the coin originally was CPU only for a while. And the way it was coded was that you could have a slow Celeron CPU and a fast i7 CPU and they for some reason would hash at the same hashrate. It was pretty much 1 CPU 1 Vote as Satoshi intended.

Anyways people back then were renting out Amazon AWS and were making crazy profits for a few weeks with that coin. It was actually the only time ever that I CPU mined with my Sempron/Celeron CPUs while GPU mining ETH. I think I remember I was triple mining in those days. Basically dual-mining Ethereum plus Decred and also CPU mining ZCoin. Those sure were the happy days of mining. Miss those days.

Since OP didn't give the hashrate maybe he is asking himself how to get that information, and i would like to share my favorite source for this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Non-specialized_hardware_comparison

In that link we will get the MHash/sec for almost any mining hardware (Miner, CPU or graphic card).
