I was aghast at the decision!

"We are thankful, but maybe those resources would be more relevant to reforest Europe," said Onyx Lorenzonihe, chief of staff of Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro.

What is wrong with extending a helping hand? This world is one single community.

Do you smell something selfish and unpleasant in this?

@Darker45 I’m not surprised by their decision as they’re trying to stop other countries from investigating into the cause which led to those fires, but truth cannot be hidden forever it’ll come out soon. I feel this decision will backfire on them during next election when the public will throw out the existing government, for the way they have handled these fires.

Not surprised in the least.

Brazil's President probably isn't accepting this because he doesn't want to look weak from within his country. People looking at this from the outside can't understand this, as all they're thinking about is saving the rain forest -- but in the mind of Brazil's president, he can ignore that and continue his strongman image and pro business image.

It's a very weird thing to look at from the outside. But I can without a doubt see political enemies saying that he's weak because of the fact that he accepted aid from other countries and was unable to handle the issue himself. There's also the problem of different countries wanting a favor back (not in the news) from their monetary aid.

I agree with user above, Brazil president don't want to look weak in this situation. Especially after his recent conflict with Macron. But I think such decision made by him can make things even worse. Accepting help in such situation is normal things and lot of countries around the world helps to other when something terrible happens - big fires, earthquakes, floodings and etc
These news reminds me another recent story about Sibir forests fire and when Putin rejected to accept help from Trump.
It's bad that politicians first think about their ratings, political situation, but not how to solve problem.

I told you... Keep the money and bring the guns if you are any serious. None of these joke "leaders" responsible for the Amazon will do anything to protect it.

Be thankful he rejected the money, usually the money is welcomed while nothing is done to fix the problem. Suddenly there is another former president buying a mansion and yachts abroad... And several members of his former cabinet too.

So I'm the only one who's surprised then. So naive of me. For a while, I've forgotten we're in a mad world.

Maybe he doesn't want them to find out why the fires really started?

The amount that is being spent to protect the environment is nothing, look at all the money they waste on the military and other ridiculous BS.  Shows where their priorities really are, they only care about the dollar and couldn't give a crap about the environment.

He claims that French President Macron insulted him and that unless he apologizes, he is not going to accept the money, I wonder about the people who voted for this guy in the first place, who takes his pride above the well being of everyone in the entire world since the Amazon is the first defence against Global Warming.

Well it ws fairly predictable, Bolsinaro has links with West Point and Sandhurst, and is obviously supporting the ethnic cleansing and population reduction that has been admitted by the Anglophone empire. Why do you think he reduced the fines for starting fires before the latest spate of arboricide?

Either it is pride or there's something going on in the back. Maybe there's enough reason for him to believe that the "aid" is not truly an aid and that it will have too many strings attached to it. I just hope the fires would die down finally. Is it already rainy season there in Brazil?

Brazilian president is so selfish.
Indeed, it is true that he sees other countries taking decisions without asking Brazil. It is so sad, they they don't call Brazil to the table and discuss. But an aid is for the whole planet's good so he should accept it.

Glad to see someone with at least a clue about how the 'aid' scam tends to works.

'They' have people so indoctrinated about 'forests' these days that there would be widespread support for global war on Brazil to 'save the planet' I'll bet.  Just get some stock footage of some tree burning somewhere, have Little Dicky perform a song about it, and repeat 24/7 on mainstream media.

I believe the Brazilian government  do not want any interference from any other country by criticising his picture on the Amazon, also foreign donor who contribute Ute money for the maintenance of amazone ,normally spell out ,how the fund will be use and that is what the Brazilian government do not want, yes they can accept it but they should not tell them how to spend the money ,that is what the Brazilian government  do not want

our country also know these "aid" too well. a donation shouldn't be owed which developed country does all the time. they want to be able to ask for favor
or a condition in order for them to be of "aid" to a less developed country.

Good. Reject the aid. Brazil doesn't need it. The fires are going out. That the fires are growing is fake news and propaganda, much of which is designed by the IMF to push Brazil into borrowing, just to make slaves of them.

If Brazil knew that the fiat money system was a Ponzi, that was being held together by more people, companies, and countries borrowing, they might do it so the fiat Ponzi wouldn't crash and make chaos for us all.

But if they knew that, they would also realize that they were paying off any money they borrowed by signing the loan application before they ever got the loan money. After all, the loan app unsigned is worth nothing. They don't get a loan for an unsigned app. But when they sign the app, how much is the app worth then? Why, the amount of the loan, of course.

So the app has value which they loan temporarily to the IMF. What they get in return is some other kind of money. In other words, they loaned the app-money-form to the IMF, and get other kinds of money in return. Or, in other words, they paid off the loan in advance with the signed application.

That is exactly the case, and there is a good reason: Corruption. It HAS to have "strings" attached, Brazil is truly unable to deal with the problem they themselves instigated as State policy. It is Brazil fault, you have to trample its sovereignty by sending UN troops. An UN security council resolution can fix this, and they don't have power of Veto.

Well, i would send them to all countries that share the Amazon, even mine, of course. Maybe the UN could also put a stop to the illegal mining garimpeiros have been doing for decades under such hellish conditions people here would vomit in disgust if they learned about their camps...

But of course, that is all an unknown to the world top leading countries they just buy the minerals, no questions asked. Prostitution? Check, underage? check, slavery? check. But wait, there is more, you just will never know...

Send the troops or shut up. Don't be naive with the money thing, none of these countries deserve that territory anyway, its a Stateless reality where only organized crime rules.
