<ORIGINAL POST>
Considering NMC is worth next to nothing, I feel that I have invested WAY too much time in trying to get namecoind v.32464 to work properly.

Running on Windows Server 2008, regardless of what I try, namecoind FAILS to keep up to date with the current block count. It is pretty much hit-or-miss.

I forwarded the proper port, I restart it....sometimes it syncs, sometimes it just doesn't.

Is there a cmd line function that I can use to FORCE a network sync ?

Why does it matter that it's not worth much? Namecoins weren't meant to be used as currency. They're supposed to be for registering .bit domains.

While I think the tone of this post is a bit...aggressive, I do agree with the point.  The lack of any GUI interface is a bit troubling, especially for people who are mining NMC with merged mining.  For linux users its pretty easy, most Linux users are used to running things via a command line.  But on windows, its a complete mess trying to do anything with it.

Namecoin was hacked together to claim the enormous BitDNS bounty. The bounty holders forgot to require a clean implementation, well-maintained code and user friendly tools.

Right and we all know how useful and easy to use the whole DOT-BIT system is.

NMC is fail even when it is working as supposed to :

-no damn GUI
-no way to encrypt the damn wallet
-no way to rescan the blockchain as the "-rescan" throws up a database error

FAIL !

How easy is it to really understand DNS and configure BIND correctly? It's something for sys-admin types, it's not for every bitcoin miner.

I think .bit is a great idea but the problem seems to be that merged mining is giving NameCoins to people who don't care about DNS. To them these coins are just worthless.

Sure the namecoin tools need to improve a bit but a GUI isn't that important. Easier to use command line tools would be better.

If people aren't interested in namecoins then why even use the client.  Simply send the coins directly to an exchange wallet.

You can't on bitcoin parking exchange (due to a stupidly designed limitation of new address for every deposit) but you can on any other exchange.

This gui worked for me.

Or you can always send your namecoins here:

After a few block chain deletes, some reboots and the installation of NamecoinGUI, I am much happier with how things are working......for a Windows user that is.

I changed the title of this thread to reflect my current struggle becoming less of a....struggle.

Although I still notice namecoind not staying up to date enough to use for solo mining, I simply run it when I need to (unlike the bitcoin app that runs 24/7) and it seems to update things upon loading a new instance and will stay up to date for a block or 2 before it goes to 'sleep'......

Still, better than what I started out with.

Glad to help!  Namecoin certainly hasn't gotten the attention of bitcoin, but none of the alternate chains have, so only time will tell which one will end up accepted into the marketplace.

(unlike the bitcoin app that runs 24/7)

Careful with the disk fragmentation. It will kill your hard drive right after it slows it down to the speed of a turtle.

I advise you to stop it every week at least and run the defragmenter.
