This kind of mistake is pretty typical of a guy that's had a Bengali medium education. Not that he is uneducated, its just that he never learned English as it is not considered important in Bengali medium schools.
Not true, I have studied in Bengali medium as well. It depends on the quality of institution as well as the family.

Strange that I am running into so many Bengalis on this forum these days.
Also true about family, but I have rarely seen someone from Bengali medium schools give much importance to English. In fact, all I see them do is deface station signs, bus stop signs etc - basically anything and everything that is written in English or Hindi. I guess my experience has formed by witnessing such Bengali medium youths.
Obviously, the sane-er more classy types exist. Else you and I wouldn't be having this conversation.
