Hello!

I recently purchased .082 btc from a friend, he sent it to my electrum wallet (I used a desktop one because my coinbase was having issues) from coinbase. He sent the transaction about an hour ago to this address bc1qpk6enpzm8am56xudkyjnw4086egk848chrg5g8. He sent me a screenshot of the transaction to the address and it says it has 3395 confirmations and that it's complete, but nothing shows up in my wallet. I downloaded the MacOS version 3.38 (I believe) from electrum.org
I looked up the address on several sites and nothing showed up to the address. I'm very confused

Please help!

The address is empty which means your friend is not telling the truth.

it says it has 3395 confirmations
Broadcasted an hour ago is not going to have that many confirmations. He edited the screenshot and gave it to you.

Blockchain is an open ledger. Any transaction is going to stay forever here. There are no need to have a screenshot as a proof. You can ask your friend to give you a TX number. I bet he can not.

The address does not show up in any block explorer. The maximum amount of confirmations a transaction can get in only an hour is about six. It's not even close enough to over 3000. He fabricated the screenshot.

Why screenshot? Asked your friend to send the transaction link instead to confirm that it was sent to your given address.

The address bc1qpk6enpzm8am56xudkyjnw4086egk848chrg5g8 currently doesn't have any balance.

Maybe your friend send it to the wrong address or that wasn't really a friend of yours at all.

If he is trying to scam me, is there anywhere I can get this amount of bitcoin instantly? I want to get in before it starts rising in price. Luckily I didn't send the money for the bitcoin first! I'm glad I asked for help. Thanks so much

There are plenty of ways. Look for Bitcoin ATMs in your local area, visit localbitcoins.com and make an appointment with someone or buy it via a credit card (example). ATMs and credit card services charge you a bit extra, so if you want to buy a lot of BTC then consider using a local, online exchange. It won't be instant, though.

Ok, so you make a deal with your supposed friend and it was finalized as "BTC First" before your payment? Hmm, looks both of you are fishy at the end lol.

Moving on might be the best way for you is thru direct trades with other people. Try here: Curreny Exchange. State your payment method and some details. Take note that your preferred "BTC First" will not work there. It's a fishy thing even you don't have an attempt to scam anyone. You need an escrow service for that.

If you are willing to wait a bit (for KYC process), then find a reputable local exchange there or some of the big exchanges today like Coinbase. Just remember that use only their service and don't use them as your primary wallet.

Aham! How it makes OP fishy? :-P

Based on this?
I recently purchased .082 btc from a friend
It could be lacking of English writing skill, we just do not know.

However the other guy was a scam for sure. OP is lucky that he did not send the money first.

Just take it as a joke. Smiley

Asking for a "BTC first" deal was always a fishy thing, at least at some of the cases. We don't know if OP will pay if ever the deal was smooth. But the way OP is constructing his post, he might be an honest person. Advanced thinking by me lol so that's a joke.

But yes, his "friend" is 100% scammer no doubt about that. He might think that by accepting a BTC first, he will gain OP's trust.

I used a desktop one because my coinbase was having issues) from coinbase.

If he is trying to scam me, is there anywhere I can get this amount of bitcoin instantly?

Do not buy from strangers, and do not call them friends, they are scammers who want to make easy money by sending fake screenshot or watch-only wallets. Best way is to fix your Coinbase problem and buy Bitcoins there, or take some advice from BitCryptex, but I would advise you to avoid meeting strangers via LocalBitcoins, think of your safety first.

Also try to learn some basic things, for start how to check any transaction on blockchain, or how to sign / verify message as proof of control over a specific address.

I'll suggest you learn basic of cryptocurrency how it works and then purchase it from legit source (for the first time at least) and not friends from the unknown world.
