What about development of even more asic resistant coins and what that will mean for GPU miners?

There are some good up and coming coins that are still ASIC resistant like VTC. Mining LTC with GPUs however might be a thing of the past.

+1

The end of GPUs - the same was said late in 2012 and still early in 2013 until many people became aware of the public interest for a more accessible, distributed PoW than ASIC centralization offered for SHA256, and will offer for scrypt.

And here come the new, anti-ASIC algos. Their value will grow as scrypt ASICs "take over" as OP implies.

Wash, rinse & repeat

I mine Microcoin right now its ASIC resistant and easily marketable to the general public.

I was thinking now that ASIC's are coming out for scrypt instead of making ASIC resistant coins why not just lower the memory requirements for scrypt coins so that the hash/wat catches up with ASICs... that way GPU's will still be in the game right. For example, lower memory requirements so that a 7950 can pull 2000kh/s. At least this way the efficiency gap could be close to an asic miner

Shipping September 2014?  Anything more than 2 weeks away is crazy speculation.  I would stay far away.

The competition just heated up, say from lukewarm to the middle of the freaking sun kind of heated up.

KNC taking pre-orders for 100 M/h SCRYPT ASIC

Click on the "Litecoin Mining Hardware" link.

KNC as you should be aware has been the most punctual deliverer of BTC ASIC pre-orders to date. No worries about whether they can or will, or whether it might be a scam or run by incompetent dreamers.

Yup .... 100 Megahash .... Scrypt .... Shit got real.
