Just to share here, as I received this news on my email from ledger.

Ledger Live now supports an extensive list of ERC20 tokens: you can manage more than 1250 assets, all through one app.

Here's the article explaining it.

This is great news. I hated to use MyCrypto and MyEtherWallet, because those websites have lots os possible exploits and bugs.

I would like also to see the possibility to sign messages using Ethereum address as well, this way I would never use those third party services again.

As long as MEW has been used with a hardware wallet, there are no exploits which could have affected the loss of funds.
At least not if the user are somewhat attentive.

I mean, if someone doesn't check the address he sends funds to, that could be exploited. But this applies to every wallet and is not specifically an exploit tied to MEW or any other browser-based wallet.
Proper double-checking of addresses and amounts together with a hardware wallet would have never led to someone losing funds.

Which exploits specifically are you referring to ?

Oh good. I still can't control my UTXOs, or see my individual coins properly, or see all of my addresses, or use RBF, or even sign a message from one of my addresses, but at least now I can see a thousands shitcoins on my homepage. Roll Eyes

Don't get me wrong, I really like my Ledger device, but Ledger Live is so so far behind Electrum that there is no good reason to use it for bitcoin ever. Great news for people who own a bunch of useless tokens though, I guess.

Lol I agree with you.
But electrum is supported by ledger nano, so if you want to use Bitcoin there is no reason to use ledger live at all.

On the other hand, there are some erc20 tokens which are somehow interesting, such as BAT or LINK , and we had to use third party services to access those coins (which are not as reliable as Electrum).

Which exploits specifically are you referring to ?

This DNS hack is an example. I know it is not something that risky for advanced users, but I hate to have to access my tokens via a web browser full of those kind of exploits.

The connection with those services were always problematic also. Sometimes myetherwallet just didn't work, and I had to use mycrypto .

But this basically comes down to what i have said:

I mean, if someone doesn't check the address he sends funds to, that could be exploited. But this applies to every wallet and is not specifically an exploit tied to MEW or any other browser-based wallet.

Fake wallets, whether through DNS poisoning or through the user who downloaded the wrong software, put the user at the same position.
With a hardware wallet, you are still safe from loss of funds as long you check the amount and address of the transactions.

As long as you are using a hardware wallet and are cautions when sending transactions, you are safe.
And as long that is the case, using a browser-based wallet is absolutely fine IMO.

That was pretty much exactly my reaction when I saw that email in my inbox... I didn't even bother reading it. I just deleted it. Roll Eyes

It seems Ledger are just trying to provide "what the (uninformed) masses want"... it's common sense business I guess, they're more likely to sell more units if they support ERC-20 tokens because there are plenty of people trading them and wanting that support... whereas, unfortunately, the bulk of people don't really seem to care about more important (imo) things like RBF, coin control and signing messages etc. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At least we have Electrum to fill in the gap...

Wait are you saying coins like powerledger now can be put in the nano ledger now without using something like MEW?  I have powerledger in an exchange at the moment.

@jerry0
Yes, you can store your Power Ledger on Ledger devices now. Have a look here > https://shop.ledger.com/pages/supported-crypto-assets
It is supported on both Nano S and Nano X.

Also read this to understand how to store your different erc-20 tokens:
