I know we have a beginners board, and a various places for posting scam accusations, but they aren't really friendly for potential crypto buyers. Would it be useful to have a board providing scam avoidance advice, and discussing possible scam of very high risk projects? If the board was topic specific, it might help to save a few rabbits from losing their carrots.

I felt the same few weeks ago but since we do not have any such board, I decided to use Scam accusations board for a topic that actually helps users to learn about some common scamming tactics.

Here is the topic: List of (un)known methods scammers user to scam users with honorable mention

And I believe that topic like this needs a separate board as you proposed.

Thanks for bringing this idea here. Let's see what others have to say about it.

Cheers :-)

In my opinion, the scam accusation boards would be the best board for such topic, the only addition should involve a specific thread created for just that purpose then pinned for easy visibility. This thread would be updated with new scam tricks, how the potential scams can be spotted & avoided. (something like what @Royse777 has done).

The other scam avoidance discussion can be discussed as regular topic on other appropriate board like the beginner and help. When new tricks are discovered, they get updates on the pinned thread on the scam accusation board.

Something similar to this with more details discussion [EDU] How to spot a scammer (Read this before doing any transactions!)

That's not a bad idea, at least you can go directly there to give 1 or 2 gifts, carrots for fraud, in red.
I'm sure the rabbit will be happy with red.

Maybe, now it's time for a anti-scam council to be created in this forum.

If the board was topic specific, it might help to save a few rabbits from losing their carrots.

We are now using Scam Accusations section
but it would be good idea to add Anti-Scam board, or some easy to find link with information.

People who are exposing scams should work together for this.

A set of advice as a pinned message is enough. No need for another new section for it. Also many topics are subjective here based on suspicion and often lack of evidence makes people think them to be scam while they actually may not. Again the reverse is also true but rare.

Since these discussions are often based on mutual talk this section would only become another spam fest like Bitcoin Discussion and Economics.

Those who are destined to lose their carrots will always lose them whatever measures you try to take to save them. Users need to become more vigilant and learn from their mistakes instead of being spoonfed with information.

We might use scam accusation board about those projects are absolutely scam. If you have doubts about any projects and you do not have proper evidence then Investigation board would be helpful for that. I don't think we need another board for discussion about scam since there is Investigation, scam accusation, reputation and Beginners & Help board available. You might choose appropriate board based on your discussion. Creating another new board likely will increase more spam. So I think better to use existing board for discussion about scams.

Investigation board is not publicly visible. Even after registering with the forum, unless someone is member rank - they can not see the contents of investigation board. This is a major problem with this board for this kind of contents that OP is asking for.

The OP is asking for a board where community will discuss about anti-scam stuffs like ideas, execution etc to stay safe from scammers. Beginners & Help works but a separate sub board under scam accusations will be nice in my opinion.

Short version:
I'm going to say no, it will not really work.

Long version:
When you say anti-scam do you really mean anti-scam or anti-fraud?
They are similar but not 100% equal.

Is this guy scamming or a fraud? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179822.0

Are we going after both?

theymos / the mods / etc. for whatever reason seem to be letting game-protect continue to spew his crap. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=874254

I think we can agree he is both a scammer and a fraud. Anyone reading anything around here will know about it.

This guy still sent him money: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5183189

Do we call all forks of BTC a fraud? Do we call all ERC20 tokens a fraud?
Who makes the call?

There are a lot of people here, that put a lot of work into calling out scams and frauds in various threads on various boards.
This I think works and will work, because if I am looking a at thread and see all this negative then it's going to be better then having to go various places and see what people think.

-Dave

Yes the above rambles a lot. I could probably put up a wall of text about it. But I think I made my point.

I am grateful that some members here put a lot of work into scam/fraud investigation and exposure, and this is a grat help to the members here. My suggestion is more to help guest viewers, and maybe recruit them into Bitcoin Talk. I've noticed that several brand new members have joined the forum as a result of a loss through fraud. These frauds are bad for all of us, and not just the victims.

Surely the spam fest could be avoided through moderation, and restrictions on posting on the board. Disabling sigs on the board would also help in my opinion.

Another board means need moderators, as far as I know we don't have enough moderators for all boards & sub-boards. So a new board just for discussion about scam will increase signature spammer if signature is not disable.  I am really not getting point what is the prevention discuss about scams on Scam Accusation board. Everyone if free to post their idea there, so everything scam related could be discuss on Scam Accusation board.

Surely the spam fest could be avoided through moderation, and restrictions on posting on the board. Disabling sigs on the board would also help in my opinion.
How it will be if rename Scam Accusation board with "Scam Accusation & Discussion"  board? It should work fine instead of create another board.

I don't think the forum need a new anti-scam board. How the anti-scam board plays different role than Scam accusation board?

Additionally, there are dozens of good threads on methods to investigate and discover scam projects; list of found scam projects (with verified-proof or just early scam detection). What users have to do from now on is contribute (by investigate and report found scam projects, and keep those threads lively).

People get scammed because they are greedy, and lazy; so the forum can not protect them, in my opinion. No matter which type of boards, approach to fight against scam projects and scammers, there are still greedy and lazy people get scammed.

How it will be if rename Scam Accusation board with "Scam Accusation & Discussion"  board?
I disagreed. Most of Discussion boards buried with spam posts, so we don't need one more board with that name-calling style.
Moreover, newcomers or new members of the forum  might stay away from that board (after renamed) if they already have negative prejudice on "Discussion boards"

Question:

If I was the author of the post then first thing I would think to post it in Scam accusations. But again scam accusations board is for an accusation topic not for any educational topic or list.

In this topic you are basically giving credits to the users. I think this topic will be another example that an anti-scam board under scam accusations board will make more sense.

Thing that would be useful to add is more easy to find and visible LINKS to important Topics.
Maybe like side or top menu style, or tabs.
I would love to see that.

It'd still more likely be the same. There are those lazy to search and those that do not know Bitcointalk before falling to the scam(s).

Even with anti-scam measurements (e.g. Metamask), cases of phishing still happens.

Hmmm i don't think creating another board for anti-scam is necessary since scam accusations are right boards for it and also, in trading discussion there are some threads that advising newbies to stay away from scam site and how to detect scam websites and some users are using their time hunting scammers and scam websites that been promoted in this forum also, the forum are always advising users to stay away from scams as always newbies see in investor-based games section so, there's no need to create another board.
