The corruption by the politicians in Puerto Rico have caused much more damage to its economy than Trump, and the banning of Cock Fighiting.

The GDP of Puerto Rico is over $100 billion, and at the $100 million figure you cite, Cock fighting only makes up 0.1% of annual GDP. I found a NPR article that puts the figure at $18 million/year.

When Government makes laws about something, they make definitions. If the term "cockfight" or "cockfighting" is defined in the Government law, Government can only do something when their terms applie. The thing to do is form a Private Membership Association (PMA). This is where people sign up for something that they are doing privately, not in the public where Government controls things.

Current major PMAs are formed for legal and medical groups. Because it is private and not public, these groups are exempt from much of the legal harassment that normally comes from Government. In legal PMAs, all kinds of people can advise other people about legal matters without being charged with giving legal advice. In medical PMAs, all kinds of people can do medical procedures on others, and medical professionals can do un-approved medical procedures on others without the threat of losing their license.

Form a cock-fighting PMA. Everyone who wants to join in the fun has to sign up to the PMA to get in, and Government is not allowed in, because their legal terms don't fit what is being done in private. So, it isn't cock fighting to Government, even though everyone inside the PMA calls it cock-fighting.

Perfectly valid point although to be fair the creatures don't usually 'wander free around a farm' from what I can see.  Being tied up to within a meter of one's house until it's time for one's arranged and ritualized death for the profit and enjoyment of his 'owner' does not meet my standards of an ideal life.

I personally don't get enjoyment out of 'blood sports', but that's mainly because they were not a part of my childhood.  It's interesting to note in The Philippines that people seem to feel that making chickens fight to the death is as natural as a tree but they were horrified when I asked if they do dog fighting.

The 'elite' have the same thing going except they use people.  Sometimes it's war with nations or more usually groups of people within a society killing one another.  The difference between an 'elite' person's understanding of the world and that of the ordinary TV-watching man-on-the-street's understanding of world is roughly the difference between of a farmer's understanding of the world and that of his chicken's.

A person who fights chickens, or any other creature, to it's death for fun has less of a leg to stand on when the same thing happens to him.  "What comes around goes around" so they say.

I don't think it's appropriate for the people who live in the U.S. to tell Puerto Ricans what to do with their chickens.  I will say, however, that it's easier for me to ignore the suffering of people who themselves get their rocks off by forcing animals kill one another.  And it would tend to not be my first choice for spending my limited philanthropic funds or making investments.   Just sayin'.

I don't know anything about dogs but gamecocks will fight any other male gamecock without training.The females are very aggressive also but dont fight 100 % of the time.

  That is why people who are raising a lot of them will chain them down. otherwise they may wander around and fight. The best cocks have plenty of space to exercise though and arent restrained accept in their pen.

 You have to keep in mind theyve been bred and selected for literally thousands of years. So i dont know if you call it natural because humans bred them to be that way. But it is in their genes and if you released them into the wild they would do fight, their offspring would fight and so on.

Arming the cocks with spurs actually makes the fight more entertaining and also makes the fight go faster so the suffering lasts shorter.

I've seen roosters fight in a barnyard, but it's not common.  Normally there is only one rooster since he has chased away the others.

To get some really good blood and gore seems to require two things:  Confine the combatants so that one cannot retreat and thereby clear a territory, and two, fit them with extra weaponry.

Almost the exact same thing is arranged for American inner cities.  And 'protectorates' like Puerto Rico.

If you do it the correct way, you can get away with a lot more in a PMA than without. But, no. Harming people is not part of PMA allowances.

You don't really need a PMA. If you know the Supreme Court cases, the codes, and the Amendments that are used in a PMA, you can go the difficult route of fighting it in court without a PMA. The PMA simply makes it easier.

It's like a drivers license. The drivers license tells people and authorities certain info about you that makes it easy for them to identify that you are a responsible driver. Many people (although not a large percentage) drive without a drivers license, and are accepted in their area, because they have been taken to court by their local LEO, and have shown that nobody is required to have a drivers license.

When these people drive out of State, or even in different counties in the same State, they might be arrested for driving without a license, and have to go through the whole proof that nobody needs one, again.

So, the PMA, like the drivers license, simply makes things easier.
