I see scrypt and sha coins with various total coins.

What do you think is the best amount of total mineable coins?

I feel Bitcoins 21 million is way too small, because nobody likes to deal in fractions...

I think around 120 million coins is about right.

I think 21 billion is a solid amount, since it's 1000 times more than Bitcoin.

I'm not looking forward to paying 0.00056400 BTC for a car once Bitcoin becomes really popular. I think 100B coins would have been a nice round number, so that spending a whole coin will not be unheard of.

The press wouldn't be very impressed by the current $0.13 per coin at that level of inflation, though :/

It is a hard question. Too many coins to begin with can dilute a coin, but ultimately will be better in the long run (say 100 billion or so?). Too few coins can seem like a strong/rare coin initially, but for long term it's completely pointless expecting the masses to deal in 8 decimal fractions. 2 decimals yes, that's what we all use now and are used to, maybe 3 would be ok but then it gets silly after that (imo).
