Help me to recover funds from 18 phrases

I own a wallet(blockchain) in which i have't logged in from last 1.5 years, I have 18 phrases which is if i understand correctly is part of legacy blockchain wallet. The problem is that somehow i am unable to receive any emails from "blockchain.info" to authorize my login attempt, I have talked to the support team but they are unable to help.


Can someone guide me a way which i can use to regain access to the funds ? My phrases are right as i verified them on the blockchain legacy recovery page which give me my wallet id and password.

I'm not sure if that would work, but try putting your 18 word seed in iancoleman.io/bip39 (or clone the repo and run offline for better security: https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39), choosing BIP32 and selecting "blockchain.in fo" in the "Derivation Path" section. Then scroll down and see if your addresses are shown (check them in a blockchain explorer to see if there is any balance/transaction history).

If you didn't receive the login ID and password the other way to recover the wallet if you have a backup aes.json file if you have this backup you can recover them by importing it here https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/import-wallet

If none of them works your wallet is gone forever.

How about, try to tell the blockchain support if they have access to your old account and check the email and maybe you are using a different email.

To recover the login ID and password, which OP just said he has. That's not the issue. The issue is that he doesn't receive any login authorization email.

How about, try to tell the blockchain support if they have access to your old account and check the email and maybe you are using a different email.

According to [overview] Recover Bitcoin from any old storage format , the only wallet which uses 18 words mnemonic is Armory.

but that is not "mnemonic" or as OP puts it "18 phrases". they are more like 72 random characters that are split into groups of 4 (18x4). it is most probably blockchain.info recovery phrase since they have gone through a range of lengths for their recovery phrase.
if that didn't work, it could be a Coinomi seed as they at some point let users select the number of words they wanted in their seed phrase and 18 was one of the choices.

Maybe are you checking the wrong e-mail address?
And also check the spam folder if there is one.

I have tried signing up with the new wallet on my email, It doesn't work and i don't receive an email for new wallet sign up. I have talked to the yahoo customer support for months and they say that they are not blocking anything. The email is same because when i create a support ticket on my wallet id i receive emails from blockchain.com on my email id saying that your support ticket has been created.

I have recently taken a step where i have entered a new email id to gain access to the wallet using blockchain.com and it says that "if the owner does not reject the authorization (which obviously i can not i will gain access to the wallet on a new email id) but i am quite sceptic about this method. I haad read forums to understand that if you have your phrases with you you can always recover your funds. Is this saying wrong in my case ?

I have everything, I have my correct wallet id, My correct password, My btc address, My recovery 18 words phrases associated with my btc address (This means that i have 18 different words & total characters for it are 142 with spaces between words and 125 without spsaces). The onnly problem is that i am able to receive my authorization email to verify the wallet from "no-reply@blockchain.info". Is there somewaay to retrieve my wallet ?

not exactly.
usually when people talk about these "phrases" they are referring to mnemonic that are used according to a standard called BIP39. but the problem is that not all wallets stick to that standard and in early years (like old versions of blockchain.info wallet) this standard wasn't around or was not popular so they used different techniques.
this means as long as you have the "phrase" and have access to the same wallet, you should be able to recover your funds. if you don't have access to the wallet or if the wallet is bad at keeping backward compatibility, then you have to go through the source code of that wallet to figure out how they used to go from the phrase to a private key. i don't think anybody knows this about early versions of blockchain.info wallets!

so your only option is to contact their support and use the links that were posted to try and recover your wallet.

you have the old recovery phrase of legacy blockchain wallet for recovering forgotten password
that is not the same as the new 12 words backup phrase, which you get when the wallet is upgraded

he also has similar login problem on one of his accounts but with no email or 2fa
since you registered with an email address, there's no reason blockchain staff can't help you

Many of the old accounts have been closed or have not been added when the wallet update the interface so you will not be able to access your wallet using your old ID and password.

So half the replies in this thread are by people like this who haven't understood what the OP's problem is. He doesn't have an HD wallet. He has an old random unconnected private keys bc.i wallet and the recovery phrase is just used to recover the password. It is not the seed to the whole wallet.

OP's problem is simply that he can't receive emails by blockchain.info. It's not really a bitcoin problem it's an email hosting problem. I don't think we can help him here.

Obviously the OP has no seed, but he and anyone else should get some info on how to recover such wallet. Is it possible for a service like blockchain to do this kind of nonsense and wipe-out all accounts in the process of site upgrades?

old blockchain.info wallets were what are known as jbok ones - just a bunch of keys. These are unconnected random private keys unlike the deterministic wallets we use today. The recovery phrase is actually a password reminder phrase. It is not the seed.

The way blockchain.info wallets work is that the keys are generated in your browser, you set a password to encrypt them and then the encrypted copy is hosted on bc.i's servers. When you login the wallet in encrypted wallet question is downloaded from bc.i and decrypted using your password within your browser. The part he's getting stuck on is downloading the encrypted wallet. bc.i will not serve that file to him until he approves the login via his email account.

@OP another thing you can do is look for old bc.i emails in your email archive. They used to let you backup the wallet file. They sent them as .aes.json attachment files. If you have that you can simply drag and drop it to create a new wallet:

You can write your explanation in any way you want, this is not issue with e-mail hosting as you say. I know how blockchain wallet is working, no need to explain to me what is verification e-mail, and I know OP does not have seed words.

I say that his wallet does not exist in sense of "he can not access to that wallet" in any way, and even support can not help him. Maybe it is not 100% correct to say that this wallet does not exist, but it is maybe losted without any possibility of recovery.

But the support should be able to help him.
If he has all the necessary login credentials and the only thing which stops him from gaining access to the wallet file is the authorization mail... then the support should indeed be able to help him.

They should at least try to see why the mail didn't arrive. Or whether it has been sent at all (given that the credentials from OP are correct, of course).

Maybe it is not 100% correct to say that this wallet does not exist, but it is maybe losted without any possibility of recovery.

I am pretty sure that they didn't wipe their complete database.
So actually it should be wrong to say that this wallet doesn't exist.

With everything accessible (login credentials, email, "backup phrase") there definitely is a possibility of recovery.

The only problem seems to be the missing email. So either blockchain.com didn't send it out (for whatever reason) or it somehow is indeed the email providers fault (which would be unlikely).


This whole story is just another reason to not use shitty service like blockchain.com.
There is literally not a single good reason to use a web wallet.

I am actually using Blockchain.com wallet almost from the start and that was my first online wallet. Checked again just now and everything works properly.
The difference is that I have used it frequently or just logged in to check something and my very old wallet is not affected or maybe I am lucky, but I know for sure that OP would not be able to log in until he will not resolve problems with his Yahoo email.

To be able to login to Blockchain.com wallet, an email address is needed, especially if security settings are set up, to whitelist devices and ask for login confirmations, to make the wallet more secure.
Even without any settings, I was prompted from time to time, to accept the login attempt using email or to whitelist the device.

I think OP should correctly check his email if there are any blocked addresses or filters set up for incoming emails, which are automatically filtered as spam and deleted or simply blocked by OP.
OP if there is such a possibility, then turn the Yahoo email back to the original settings and wipe out all personal filters.
Contact the Blockchain.com and ask one more time for support because they should have your email address registered and when you write to them from this email then they should help you further, I assume.

Don't give up if they say no and try one more time. If this doesn't help try another support channel they provide, like social media (Twitter, Facebook). I am telling this from my own experience, where support needed fife different attempts to finally resolve my issue and the only way was to use social media, Twitter in particular because they already blocked me after 4th attempt form the main support channel.

@OP had you activated @2FA? If so then 2FA reset would work to change your email. Even there is no 2FA you might also try it. Try is better than silent.

You need to submit your wallet ID, then you need to submit your old email id,

Enter the email associated with your wallet (even if you've lost access to it).

And there is another option for submit new email:

Enter your updated email if you've lost access to your previously verified email. If your 2FA reset request if approved, this will automatically be set as your wallet's new email address.

So there is a chance for you, don't forget to read article about "I am not receiving my authorization email"

I am bit confused about your 18 phrases, there should be only 12 phrases. However I think you should try it those wallet support 18 phrases. According to blockchain it should work also other crypto-currency wallet who support phrases recovery.

If you ever need to use your backup, or recovery, phrase, your funds will be recovered into an entirely new wallet, and a new Wallet ID will be generated for you. This recovery process works similarly with a number of other cryptocurrency wallets that support this feature.

I am bit confused about your 18 phrases, there should be only 12 phrases. However I think you should try it those wallet support 18 phrases. According to blockchain it should work also other crypto-currency wallet who support phrases recovery.

That's for "new" HD Blockchain.info/com wallets... after they moved to a more "standard" BIP39 12 word recovery phrase for their HD wallets.

However, as previously stated, the original blockchain.info wallets were NOT HD wallets, simply an old school wallet with random private keys (like MultiBit Classic etc)...  and the 18 word "recovery" phrase, was a password recovery tool... it did NOT restore your private keys.

It seems that after the (many) "upgrades" that blockchain.info/.com has been through, recovery of these older wallets is not working correctly. OPs only hope is the blockchain.com support help them out and figure out why the authorisation email is not working...

Failing that, if they can find any old backups of the wallet.aes.json file, they might be able to decrypt it (assuming they know their old wallet password) and recover their keys.
