Holding is the only way for altcoin investors now unless you want to accept your losses and exit but its better to have patience, i have seen coins that worth 1,500$ a year ago and they are now 200$ , i have sold airdrop tokens that should worth 150$ for 10$ to sustain but i am not stupid enough to get rid of all my tokens and coins because market is not in my favour, be wise and remember that those tokens you are getting dispose off can turn something when market start turning for the better, be determined to win,when thinking forward always think backward as well.

not so much, I only have 2 btc and that is the result of dumping some altcoins in 2018. some of them are the top altcoins on the market, I don't need to mention what altcoins I've thrown away, can at least buy 2btc. Then what about you? is it still relying on patience or stick with the same options?

Selling at loss isn't desperation but it is a strategy when you see the market as not favorable to what you like. This strategy is effective to cut your losses and to avoid the potential further losses.

And that token that you have mentioned which you saw from $1,500 to $200.

I think it's ethereum but it wasn't $1,500 but $1,400.

Big altcoins will recover, coins like ETH,LTC,BCH will recover when market recover but be ready for a long journey, cutting your losses short is a good strategy and buying BTC is the smartest move, i am happy that the people who came into this space listed to me when i told them to invest in btc and at that time btc was at 3000$ plus, they are smiling right now lol

when we think about profit, we must think about lose too
wich mean always think about the risk and rewards ratio on our investments, and use stop loss level to cut our lost short
so, we can buyng back in the deeper price mate

For those who bought in at highs, not just for ETH, but many other coins, the best strategy probably would be to get the buy-in price lower by buying up coins at a cheaper price while they can. Of course that is only a viable strategy if you believe said coin will appreciate in the future and it actually works out that way. It also requires additional funds and additional risk.... but it's one of the few ways to dig yourself out of a humongous loss.

Simply taking a loss and moving everything to btc is an okay strategy when at a minor loss or if you feel whatever coin you invested in is utterly doomed. I wouldn't put ETH into that category however... but if someone for some odd reason decided to put their life savings into Dentacoin (or whatever junkcoins), they might want to look at an exit strategy vs buying up more dental coins.

I do agree with the OP that holding is probably the best strategy so long as we aren't talking about requiring a miracle to recover losses  -- so those who bought their alts high, but not at ATHs -- may be better off simply holding unless they spot a better opportunity.

The problem with human psychology is that we don't like to accept defeat, You win some and lose some, that is life, what really matter is to have more wins than loses. There are some tokens that I was considering selling after losing 50% of its value but hope it would come back and now have lost 99%. The main thing in cryptospace is to actively manage your account, any project you have doubt in sell and move to better project, BTC or Tether

Instead of thinking backwards while planning forward; why not use another method ?

If a bounty or airdrop with good prospects gives you 500$ worth, think about today and sell 80% off that’s your income; then spare 20% or 10% for the road

What you have done is almost the same as what I thought so far, because I used to hold several bounties tokens that many rumors will experience price increases, but now these tokens have become junk and have no value at all in the market, from that experience I now prefer immediately sell it when the token has been listed on the market because if we hold it longer it certainly can be at risk we will suffer losses later, we better get less than nothing.

You could say if you will not receive a loss by replacing it with bitcoin and can you even see what will be happening when you buy bitcoin above 13k rate and then hodl it till this time? I guess if you are so smart to do a correct calculation about how much money is getting disappeared right now.
The real thing that is happening right now. People are betting on BAKKT again and it doesn't consider the utility of bitcoin as the main thing to invest in bitcoin. It's very sad to see why so many speculators in these days.

I hope you are in the right path. From what I've gone through, I should be very careful sticking loyal and too much of a believer of a certain altcoin unless that coin is from the top 10 or 20. But if that coin is even outside the top 100 or 200, you better be very knowledgeable of how their actual development goes lest you will just wake up one day with your portfolio full of dead coins. Take note that there are more altcoins that died than those which endured the worst market conditions and went on successful.

I would only advise you to get rid of it as soon as possible as long as they still have prices (gift tokens). I took a recent example like the KICKS token I received 1,008 KICKS from a social media campaign, at that time I threw it away at $ 485 and you can see at the moment they are only around $ 145 of the total amount of tokens I received at that time? imagine how much loss if I save the current token.

Better to grab the benefits than waste your time with non value tokens. With new projects that being introduced chance that it will be worthless after being listed so it's better to sell it out to enjoy the value. No one can guarantee whether the token will rise or what will happen afterwards.

You need to be more specific and think wisely whenever you get a chance to received bounty rewards, though it's not that big but better than nothing at all.

we were lucky if we can recieve a coin that can be listed on exchanges because most that i encounter are not like that  . i and many others recieve a coin that has no value , so what are we going to do with that ? for decoration ? lol  . if a project or a coins is really promising , it can become succesful and wont be beaten easily by newer projects therfor its still okay to hodl them than selling them too early for penny and missing the big oppurtunity that awaits  .

I prefer to wait for a while until the situations get better. It's no problem for me if I should wait for more because I am sure that the coins and token will get high someday. If you were still strong to hold the coin and token, then it's good for you. But if it's not, then you might consider selling right now but to be honest, that will not make you a profit. Be wise is important to follow the market so we can know what we should do related to the market itself. Do not follow other people suggestion if you don't analyze or you are not sure because that will be too risky for you.

You need to maintain tokens that come from legitimate projects, the team and developers are still active in developing further projects. but for tokens generated from a project but do not have a good market development, it is better to sell immediately.

in such market conditions how can we see projects that have good market developments? Such conditions will be difficult because almost all new altcoins are also down and experiencing a decline.
what I often do is mistakes and regrets when selling assets that I have later in the future the assets have experienced a big increase.

Just think of the top listed altcoin, that itself has changed a lot in terms of value. By this time majority of the tokens will be valued close to zero. One of the token that I invested an year ago has reached a value close to $0.08 and now the value of the same token is $0.00037. This is much worse, and I've lost hope that these will recover. Only possibility for majority of the altcoins to get recovered completely depends on the growth of ethereum. Hope next year there will be an altcoin season as 2017.

When we are into cryptocurrency it is always a better pick to think about the downtrend and have alternate plans of making changes to the portfolio as we don't know how the market changes.

I don't think so, not all coins are created equal, there are coins not worth holding, there are two kinds of coins, coins that you are going to hodl and coins that you will dispose of, and you can differentiate these coins by how they develop their platform and how good is the volume in the market.

yes, for coins that are truly unfit to hold must be sold as soon as possible before they actually lose value and are left behind. even some that are already registered in the exchange can also be a scam.
