Even NASA is getting into Bitcoin... by a round-about path.
NASA to Launch Bitcoin to the Moon? Space Agency Seeks Crypto ExperienceNASA seems to think so. The U.S. aeronautics agency is looking for a big data scientist and specifically mentions that experience with cryptocurrency and blockchain could help you get the job.
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is a research and development facility located in California which was founded in 1936 and mainly focuses on developing robotic spacecraft for the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The space agency is now looking for a new Data Scientist to join the JPL team and has a surprising point on the list of qualifications for the role. The wanted ad states: "Experience with cryptocurrency and Blockchain is considered a plus."
There is no explanation given as to why experience with cryptocurrency is beneficial for the work at JPL but you can have fun speculating. Maybe NASA is looking for ways to develop a new economy for an independent Mars colony, launch an ICO to fund a moon base, or even find a way to trade with space aliens. It could also just be a way to signal to potential applicants that it is looking for people that really love to dive into deep technological and mathematical concepts.

I would love to see a rocket and a satellite with BIG Bitcoin logo :-P I mean seriously, it would be very nice if agency like NASA finds blockchain technology useful for them and starts promoting Bitcoin. I am wondering will there be anyone from this forum? Who will be this or a group of lucky champ/s? :-D

And all this time, we laugh at those who are asking "when moon?" LOL. Telegram channels kick them as annoying. Admins ban them for asking such stupid question. Memes are harsh against them. And now, what? Bitcoin is indeed going to the moon, after all. NASA, when moooooon?

Blockchain technology is very different to Bitcoin, when companies are talking about it, because they look at the underlying technology that they can utilize to secure data, because it is basically immutable. They might implement it in their Supply chain to track components and parts or to store data in a more secure manner. It would be great if they used the Bitcoin token, but I seriously doubt that. We might just see the first MarsCoin in the future, if NASA are looking at a payment system for the Mars colonization projects.

Good load of thought process by whoever wrote the original article as we could possibly be entering a future where one or more of the above mentioned theories could actually be a reality. Imagine a mining farm on Venus which is powered by heat and the amount of sustainability it would offer. A quick thought about the space industry with emergence of private agencies like SpaceX also plays a pivotal role in making these happen. As for the job, it indeed is a great opportunity for a blockchain/crypto developer to work with the highest degree of sophistication at his/her disposal.

It would be interesting to see what NASA will develop. I do not believe that the new crypto expert will do the future economy of Mars. Perhaps NASA plans to raise funds doing something like IEO. Waiting for an official report if NASA wants to talk about it

Look at it this way. NASA has always wanted/needed public support for what they are doing. Yet a lot of what they are doing is not really meant for public scrutiny. That's part of the reason why they make or authorize some of the silly videos that are up here and there on the Net. So, did we really go to the moon? Of course we did. But NASA doesn't/didn't want to show us all their top secret footage of going to the moon. They had to show us enough of it, because encryption wasn't developed enough for them to use it. So, if they use the Bitcoin blockchain, they will probably use it the same way OmniLayer.org uses it... to ride some of their stuff in sidechains, correlating the real with the fake blockchain to sidechain, using the Bitcoin encryption to keep it secure.

I don't think that them hiring a crypto and a blockchain expert has anything to do with NASA thinking about using or implementing the cryptocurrency into their system, JPL is a research facility after all they might be just expanding their field and testing the water for the new technology that is blockchain that has the potential to change and improve many fields of our lives, including using it for spacecrafts and the space industry, as for cryptocurrency specifically i think it is too early for that but how knows we might see colonization on mars and when that happens the the cryptocurrency will be a viable option for them.

Though, I agree with you that NASA needs the public to be involved in funding but kept important details on whatever they have found in their expedition from them. We are still on the Earth.Moon colonization is kind of utopia Humanity has destroyed life on Earth and now escaping to the Moon. I will like to see more details about it.Maybe blockchain is about to help them with project but as for now it is only headlines to me
Funny how Intelligent people thinks they can cultivate Moon to have a living atmosphere when we are struggling to revert earth's atmosphere to its optimum state. But Bitcoin wise, it is really cool to see Bitcoin banner on the actual moon not on some mini moon props.

Maybe NASA are just seeking someone who knew how to develop blockchain integration to their space projects, space exploration is a very expensive project, if they need accounting to it, they would need automation and blockchain could help them with it. But they mention "cryptocurrency", don't you think this is related to Elon Musk Spacechain?

Well, we certainly will need a transaction system between planets because the cost of transfering paper money from Earth to other planets will be very high. Surely, this is for the far future but it will be. On the other hand, this system may be centralized. Human kind needs to evolve until we get a decentralized system for all. I hope we will evolve soon though.

As Pab stated that people in moon is a utopia so as decentralized monetary system is. With the presence of a governing body, a fully decentralized system will never be possible. Let alone government always wanted to get involved in every peoples pocket or by any change they can get profit in mediating/regulating transactions. Therefore, Trump will not ban Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Even before the end of his presidency, he had little left, so he would not do such harsh and stupid things. Who knows, Trump's action is unpredictable, he can ban Bitcoin and let NASA adopt the technology within it. There are several talented programmer in their rank or NASA can hire one, cloning Bitcoin is an easy task for them less the mining activities of course since for sure they wanted it centralized.

I think NASA would more be interested in blockchain technology than in Bitcoin itself. The fact that they are looking to hire cryptocurrencies experts doesn't necessary mean they will deal with Bitcoin itself although it's very possible. Anyway it's good promotion for cryptocurrencies in general that such respective angency is looking for experts on that field.
