Someone on mycelium is selling btc at the rate of 6.2k/btc. The seller says that I can pay via paypal and charge him back after an hour if he doesn't send the coins.

This definitely smells like a scam, but I'm wondering how I could get scammed if I send money through paypal. Usually it's the sellers that get scammed because people charge them back. Can someone tell me how this works?

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Really? Someone is willing to sell you BTC at $6.2k while the price is current at $8,1k and you think that's legit? C'mon man.

He will probably try to dispute the claims, or ask you to do in a way that you can't charge back.

Why would anyone do that? Stop being greedy. =/

I have not recommended you to make a transaction on Paypal to buy or sell an intangible product directly. As TryNinja says it's very easy for him to make disputes or even run away. I have an experience about it, when I am selling SIM card top up credits and pay with Paypal balance. My buyer opens a disputes and I am lose, everything proof I send to Paypal support, I still can't withdraw my money and Paypal sent money to my buyer. Condition like this can happen to you, because intangible product is very low protection. I think, if you want to make a transaction with him, using escrow from trusted escrow member on this forum will be safe your money.

I thought the scam worked like this:
he could use the 1% instant withdraw then do some bank transfer to changelly or some other instant crypto exchange. Then he could run away with the bitcoins.

Selling on mycelium. With a much lower rate compared to regular sellers (6200 compared to 8300). Payment asked via Paypal, while mentioning chargebacks.

Literally could not get dodgier then that, it's a pretty obvious scam. If you want to buy BTC, get on Localbitcoins, make your own ads or get your coins of a reputable seller.

There isn't an instant withdraw option usually, payment doesn't hit your account after a couple of days and if you chargeback or do something, the withdraw might be canceled or he will have a negative balance, I'm pretty sure he was going to win the dispute claim because Paypal is very strict towards crypto buyers, and will usually never help out.

Normally they will just accept the Paypal, and then quickly exchange your Paypal for another cryptocurrency such as BTC etc.

Then, it doesn't matter if you chargeback, since he's already cashed it out. You will probably get your money back, and Paypal will take the hit. Alternatively, Paypal might simply close your case since they don't arbitrate disputes involving cryptocurrencies.

Paypal is often used for this kind of scam.
You should never do this deal with him!

What you can do is post more information about him
with images and proofs, and we can examine him Wink

You can use Bisq exchange for p2p trading. It is Free and secure

That how scammers act. They prey on your greed and urge to make quick profits. Don't even waste your time with that chap, you may lose your money.
Like the saying always goes;
"If the deal is too good to be true, it's probably scam"
