OK.... Has anyone actually tried to donate? For Unicef USA I get this: https://www.unicefusa.org/#donateSame here: https://donate.unicefusa.org/page/contribute/help-save-childrens-lives-29161When I try to access directly the org it redirects me to .de (based on ip probably) where I get: https://www.unicef.de/spenden/jetzt-spenden?purpose=52250How are they accepting BTC though? Is via a BTC payment processor that automatically turns it into USD, or do they have wallets and stuff set up and they are actually going to hold some crypto-currencies themselves?
I don't have a clue about the new donation system but checking the french donation address: https://www.blockchain.com/cs/btc/address/3DDBbtXRb1kjGiLiFzU5hvtDiarV5DTTRzit sure seems to be a wallet (maybe in an exchange) as it does not clear funds as soon as they get there as most 3rd party payments service do.

*snip*
Same thing in Finland, no bitcoin payment option. Hopefully they will make this easier if they indeed want to adopt it. Also it will make good pr if they get donations a lot with it. That might lift a little bit that criminality crypto association people sometimes have with bitcoin users.

This is really nice !! takes money away from banks and gives it to the ones in need, I can imagine the bank fees that a global institution like UNICEF pays... This will encourage adoption and will help the crypto economy to gain volume... It is time for institution to embrace the digital age It's very good and fulfilling to hear that a charitable institution is now accepting crypto as a donation for the welfare of the children. This will encourage more big institutions to open their eyes on crypto like bitcoin and ethereum as they can be of great help for those who are in need. It will also give way to bitcoin and ethereum as they will increase their volumes and their price value.

But who benefits from this ? Instead the UNICEF foundation ? I mean they accept bitcoin and they transform into cash ? or they simply use the bitcoin further to help ? This is a good question that I think we will no answer , don't get me wrong, I have only good words on UNICEF and I do hope they will use the donations coming with BTC and ETH to help a lot of people and families with everything they need , we are talking about the major sponsor of Barcelona ( City , not football team ) tho so news like this are always big and I do hope more foundations will pick up the trace and follow the example <3 .

Offcourse, these news sound positive. But... I have heard too many bad things about UNICEF. Big part of donations simply don't reach people who really need it. These money goes somewhere else. Though, these things still weren't covered in mainstream media globally. Offcourse, I'm nottalking that same things happens in all other charity organizations.
I don't think that's always the case with charities, most of them have issues with that, maybe some of them have higher ups embezzling from them, maybe some of them aren't very good with taxes, but at least they are doing good work. But who benefits from this ? Instead the UNICEF foundation ? I mean they accept bitcoin and they transform into cash ? or they simply use the bitcoin further to help ? It's a marketing ploy for them to get extra funds, I'm sure they have been a lot of Bitcoin supporters that have given them a couple hundred dollars due to them accepting BTC now. I definetly am going to haha.

Yeah, it's a weird donation system, I just got pretty confused and stopped midway when I was going to donate, due to the stuff you said above. I think it's just bad implementation of code that isn't very user-friendly, and it was only required to do simple things (generate new address per customer, with specific BTC amount, address and QR code) so I'm not sure why they are facing these issues. I looked at the address and looks like an exchange one, they probably sell all their BTC per a certain amount (eg, 10,000).

This is good news, but i wonder if it's possible to make anonymous donation with BTC or ETH? I don't see reason people would use BTC or ETH to make donation if they're forced to give away their identity where they'd have easier time by donating fiat instead.
I think you can donate anonymously, they have made this campaign for instance and there are anonymous donations listed on the bottom right: https://www.givengain.com/cause/1577/campaigns/5369/Complete list: https://www.givengain.com/cause/1577/campaigns/5369/donations/I don't know if this is only throught this interface-website thing but since the money is going to UNICEF I assume you can donate anonymously, so technically I don't see why they wouldn't accept BTC anonymously, the problem is if it comes from problematic addresses like addresses linked to criminal activity, it may be troublesome, this is why we need better fungibility. It shouldn't matter where the money came from if ultimately it goes into a good cause. Thanks for sharing the link, but the "Anonymous donation" options isn't what i think since you need to enter email address (even though you could use throwaway email) and current payment options gives away your identity. I doubt they only ask your email if cryptocurrency options is available and you chose it. I think they have to comply with KYC to get donations, but im not sure if anonymous means really anonymous, or not shown in public so they have the data but just dont display it on their website. In any case, it's a positive thing, the more means to get money in good causes the better, and those things usually get good press for Bitcoin which can't hurt.

took them long enough. UNICEF France has been accepting cryptocurrency for a year now. Have they had an increase in donations since accepting Bitcoin/cryptocurrencies? I just feel like this is not that much to get excited by because its not going to increase the overall use of Bitcoin and they are not going to get many donations in Bitcoin if any at all. People would prefer to donate money in cash because of the potential of Bitcoin rising in the future where as cash will probably fall in the future. That might not be the case, even if bitcoin will prevail in the future, there's no excuse that it can't be used to donate to UNICEF, it is still a currency and still has a value that will make the essence of donation effective. I think the main idea is to keep in mind that international organization now is opening their field to adopting cryptocurrency and bitcoin which a good news for us hoping for the best in crypto.

No, I don't think it's an issue with KYC or AML options, most charities don't really have to conform to these that closely since they aren't a payment processor or an exchange. If they did want to have KYC restrictions they would have likely set up ID verification and other features, but I think the email is just a way for them to contact you if there are issues or send you their brochure, or other emails.

this is good news .. I'm very glad to hear that. this proves that cryptocurrency is not only identical as a tool for illegal transactions. when cryptocurrency is in the right hands it can be used for goodness. Unicef accepts cryptocurrency very helpful for people who want to donate their money but are hampered by national borders. by using crypto transactions will be faster, easier and cheaper. I hope that in the future many humanitarian agencies will also accept cryptocurrency donations.

This is great new, the adoption by institutional investors seems painstakingly slow but never the less, it''s still adoption. The more the larger institutions start to become more acceptable toward cryptocurrency, the stronger and more solid the crypto economy becomes. The banks and other major centers of money just may be the last to actually make the turn around, and start adopting.

That is a good help to the bitcoin itself as well. That's really good to hear so that bitcoin will become more popular all over the world because Unicef is also well known all over the world. It's really good to help Unicef and to cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ethereum as well to gain more investors. People who want to donate anonymously will also encourage to give because they use bitcoin and ether. I hope all establish like this not only for NGOs.

Wow! This is good news for us and Unicef. Because it is easier to reach out to those in need. Hopefully other companies will follow this style of collecting/donation as well. I am sure that in the next few months bitcoin will again have a demad and I am sure more and more people will trust BTC and it can be successful in the future.
