I remember that the earlier posted images in a thread could not be viewed while on the preview/reply page.
We used to get: (img link)(FORUM: disabled on this page for security.)

First of all what was the security concern regarding displaying images on a webpage and secondly is the security issue fixed in the forum that now we are able to view the images?

I just tried with a random thread and I still get this.

I don't think there is really a security issue. It's probably just precaution thing (maybe to avoid stuff like this). But I may be wrong.

Tracking pixels

Isn't this already prevented by the image proxy?

That's weird because I am able to view the images in this particular thread:

Yeah, the image proxy makes a cache copy on the forum's server preventing tracking pixels.

That's what I thought. But I don't see any other reason for that. Maybe the forum uses a different "technique" to render the image in that page?

Fixed the link btw.

Ok, actually you can see the images in the "Reply" page but not in the "Quote" page. Now I'm lost.

The way tracking pixels work is by linking a image which is hosted at your website, and you have direct access to the logs of the visitors of that image. By introducing a proxy there's a third party involved to prevent this.
I know. I mean, what if in that page the image would just be loaded from the original website instead of passing through theymos' proxy?

I'm pretty sure this is a new change, and I'm assuming that means its fixed. When I was creating my reporting effectively thread around a year ago I definitely didn't have images within the preview section.

That's what I thought. But I don't see any other reason for that. Maybe the forum uses a different "technique" to render the image in that page?
The way tracking pixels work is by linking a image which is hosted at your website, and you have direct access to the logs of the visitors of that image. By introducing a proxy there's a third party involved to prevent this. At least, that's how I'm assuming this is being dealt with.

I know. I mean, what if in that page the image would just be loaded from the original website instead of passing through theymos' proxy?
The preview page? Well, the poster of the image would be the only one seeing it as its in the preview so at that stage there's no reason to proxy it. That's if I'm understanding the question correctly.
