The Technical Essentials of MarcoPolo（MAP）

● APoS Consensus Protocol

The consensus mechanism of APoS (Asset Proof of Staking) is the inheritance and development of
the existing DPoS, and it continues the decentralization concept of PoW consensus. The existing DPoS
mechanism is too centralized. Compared with the traditional PoW consensus, all nodes with computing
power can participate in the PoW consensus, which achieves better fairness and decentralization. In
principle, any node of digital assets supported by APoS mechanism can participate in consensus, this
can be external assets or assets on the original chain itself. All assets can participate as Staking, the
fairness and decentralization of PoW is achieved by Staking, which better solve the problem of too
centralized in the consensus found in the original DPos Staking mechanism. In the APoS consensus,
nodes participate in the election of committees by pledging assets, and can also pledge assets to entrust
the corresponding committee candidates

● HotStuff Protocol

The APoS committee communicates and reaches consensus through the HotStuff agreement. The
HotStuff protocol was proposed by VMware Research and other teams in March 2018, and its preprint
version was revised through five rounds of iterations, which was officially released at PODC2019, a
prestigious international conference in the field of parallel and distributed computing. HotStuff is a
Byzantine fault tolerant consensus protocol based on the main nodes (Leader). Through the HotStuff
protocol, the view switching process can be merged with the normal process, reducing the complexity
of view switching, and realizing streamlined process processing. Consensus based on the main node
greatly improves the consensus efficiency

● Magellan Protocol

In order to share computing power and performance between each public chain, and integrate the
resources of each public chain, we designed a complete set of communication scheduling protocol --
Magellan protocol. The Magellan Protocol is a set of protocols built on multiple chains, through which
computing power and performance can be shared across all networks to achieve TPS expansion. The
basic structure is shown in the figure below.
In the entire network, MarcoPolo as Standard Chain is responsible for the overall scheduling, and a
series of Interact Chain is used to Interact with other public chains. Standard Chain dynamically
allocates transactions and tasks to each main chain that connected to the network to be executed
according to the work load.

● IBC Inter BlockChain Communication

The blocks are generated by the APoS consensus of each Interact Chain, and the APoS assets
supported by each Interact Chain can be different. Interact Chain natively supports communication with
Standard Chain, through a set of defined Standard IBC communication interfaces, Standard Chain

•  Stage 1 2019 Q1

Gravity: The the light interoperability module - Gravity is developed. Gravity combines the
traditional cryptocurrencies that already have a strong consensus like BTC and ETH with the third
generation hybrid consensus public chain -TrueChain which has achieved payment confirmation in
seconds, supporting smart contracts and running with 2000+TPS. Sharing computing power and
performance of TrueChain using interoperability is executed by Gravity. This feature will be extended
to other high-performance public chains in late stages

• Stage 2 2019 Q4

Electromagnet：Release MarcoPolo Pay, PoB and other community governance DApp and retail
payment DApp.

• Stage 3 2020 Q4

Interaction：Release independently developed MarcoPolo mainnet - StandardChain, achieving APoS,
on-chain governance, and complete the architecture design of Interact Chain

Stage 4 2022 Q2

Grand Unification：Implement the interoperability functionality for heterogeneous cross-chain and
accomplish inter-chain resource sharing.
