I hear about this for the first time. I mean, these scammers demand cryptocurrency from their victims. It seems to me that my friend was telling me something like that.

Then you should tell to your friend  what will be the consequences if they continue doing this.
is your friend the one who asking for money or the one giving a video to unknown person?

I guess his friend is the victim. Do you really believe about the video? it's just part of their scam, they don't really have a video unless you have downloaded something and you agreed to allow that app to use your camera and gain access to your contacts.

So, a malware infect your computer that can access and see your activities like opening a webcam and watching porns? There is nothing to worry about if you are not doing such pathethic things like nude actions.

It will only happen if you launch an app of theirs and allow the app to access everything on that device through agreement. I'm not too techie but if someone who's more techie on this thing is/are free to correct me.

i don't understand how this is even called "sextortion" because the meaning of the word is when someone is blackmailing you for "sexual" acts. as in "have sex with or they will reveal your secrets". so there is no money involved. if it is then it  can only be called plain extortion.

Actually I thought the same thing because that's the term what I always heard on news headlines. Since there is no sexual intercourse happening between the one who blackmails and the victim then it was more appropriate to say an extortion only .

Anyway, whether crypto or fiat was used as a medium for their evil deeds, they can still be busted. If you are a victim of this modus or knew someone suffering from it the best thing you can do is to become brave instead of lettinng him taking advantage of you further. Ask for police authority's assiance and for sure they'll do a man hunt operatiin.

I think this method is not easy for them to do because to look for victims without evidence, extortion is difficult to do, especially because the victim is never connected with the person, extortion is difficult, especially if there is no sexual inside, unless we send something Video mixed with porn so sextortion extortion could happen.

I do not understand what you mean, but this is like, someone who buys an item or something, but someone else is subjected to a bill for that item?
if it's like that I guess it's difficult how can you be charged a fine / bill when you don't do it even if possible they don't have to bother pointing it at you if they have full control over your wallet.
