While searching, I bumped on this article https://medium.com/vid-foundation/the-great-hack-e8a2795d9da0 written by and posted on @Vid-foundation on medium. At first, I skipped but I couldn't skip on ignoring the word "hack". So, I head on to watch #TheGreatHack on @Netflix. There I drew my conclusion on the fact that social media are just sort of privacy-mongers.

To understand better, please take a watch following the link I posted above. The attention of the VID itself -being a video-centric media restraining itself from having users' information in custody is a topic for another day. But for now, I'm taking two days off filtering all of my personal infos on traditional social media. I'm disheartened.

Yes, storing information on the network is a big problem of the society in which we live, an example of posting data on the blockchain is not yet a guarantee of deviation, technologies are developing, and everything that happens on the network is constantly being analyzed, unfortunately this cannot be avoided

The day we learn how to use the social media our privacy’s are already violated, whether we like it or not. The challenge now is how to prevent this not to happen again. I believe blockchain is the key to solve this issues and could also protect the future generations.

Does that connote that, even blockchain-based social media can still be found in such regard? Especially ones staying away completely from having users information.

Hahaha, that first statement got me Lol.  Grin .
Actually, Blockchain-based platforms like VID, Appics others, have got good proposals to bring an end to it and have begun the movement. VID especially taking the lead. I await the launch to see full features.

Social networks today are a huge database with various information about millions of people around the world, since spending time on networks is now the most popular activity on the Internet. And, unfortunately, most people don't understand how important it is to filter information about themselves there.

I am a fan of VID and what they are doing to bring a decentralised and privacy focused social media to 7 billion World population using the zero-knowledge encryption technology. Zuckerberg's Facebook really messed up in his handling with 2billion personal datas committed into his care and that is probably the reason why the United State Senators and not keen to trust him with Blockchain banking through Libra

Wow. So you are off Instagram because of these sorry cases of data hack. Well that if your data is not among the ones sold off by Facebook CEO Wink. What I wonder now is if the security apparatuses of different Governments will now take a different approach to crime investigation and evaluation now that identity theft has become prevalent.

The great hack was a great read. It exposed how the confidence and trust embedded on social media giants like Facebook is betrayed because of Man's insatiable greed. There's a wise saying that there's not enough money in the world to satisfy a greedy man but theres enough to satisfy a contented man. I was really disappointed with Zuckerberg and his cohorts and I hope he becomes more responsible in the future with all the power bestowed on him

quite reasonable, almost one third of the world's population is on facebook, in terms of business, of course it is very beneficial for libra.

well, let's say like that. even no personal info on my facebook.
I don't know for sure about that, but hopefully, however the approach is, as long as it is criminalized it is enough.
because basically, identity theft is a crime that is not a normal category in the crime category.

Even though you probably shouldn't base this knowledge of a netflix video and just a simple article, it does have a lot of merit to it.

Let's take Facebook as a good example - they literally broke privacy laws and where under investigation for it, and the way the earn money via advertisements, they basically track your activity and then show you items that are relevant.

For example, look for headphones on the facebook marketplace, the google ads and facebook ads you'll see now will all be targeted, and likely be headphone ads.

Your last statement is the basis of the issue at hand and account for reasons the social media operators grown so much today. A lot of people are ignorant of it.

How possibly could email be hacked without letting your credentials out willingly?

Good to hear that you're a fan, I am one as well. Zuckerberg won't move far with the Libra project as the US senate don't trust him an inch just as you said. Even TON project by Telegram is stuck with SEC, hence I'm pretty sure there is a serious justifiable conspiracy against Mark.

Absolutely true because one of the main feature of Blockchain technology is the degree of privacy that it can provide. In recent years the number of large companies using Blockchain technology increased which means that that they have found the solution through integrating this on their system. So it's not too far that social media platforms will also use Blockchain in the next coming years.

If you have provided your details either by social medias or other platforms out there, you are already giving your identity that the platform can use it anytime they like without your permission.

Even I, I really hate giving my details to any social medias out there but sometimes I have no other choice but to give it. While we are using their platform they are also earning using our credentials by selling it to other companies that needs our details for their marketing purposes.

I would never post something important on social media, because everything that you are uploading will stay online forever. Facebook and Instagram are making millions of dollars only by selling your personal data to other companies.

Yes, if there is nothing important, then it's better not to post on social media, but it's still very reasonable if Facebook and Instagram get millions of dollars with everyone's personal data, because many people already trust Facebook and Instagram, social media users also many benefit through the business they run through Facebook and Instagram, so in this case, between users and companies Facebook and Instagram are both benefited.
