Not a serious benefit, but...

Last night while taking back the paper money from my Uber driver, I noticed that it wasn't very neat. I googled a bit, and:

>Here's How Dirty Your Money Really Is

>Dirty Money

Paper money can reportedly carry more germs than a household toilet.

This is all about our paper money... Does bitcoin get dirty too? Grin

That's correct. It's not a serious benefit.
Nowadays many people pay with debit/credit cards, so the germs from the paper are not really an issue.
Bitcoin has plenty of real benefits (which still need to be advertised), no use to waste the time with this kind of small things (imho).

dollars is money whether digital or paper.
the device/tool used to transact the dollar (again paper or digital) can both contain viruses

phones and computers get viruses too. not from the currency itself but from the device used to transact

Paper money and metal coins are one of the dirtiest things you ever had because it was passed from one hand to another before going inside your pocket. However, i think there's nothing to worry about because it's harmless unless you are very sensitive and got an OCD for being super clean. Just trust our immune system, he can take care of it Grin.

Regarding about your question, I might say Yes but it's not like what you think. This is what is like; bitcoins or any crypto are mined by miners which consumes a lot of electricity → Electricity may come from non renewable resources such as oils and coals → Coals and oils produce too much carbon dioxide after getting burned and emitted to our atmosphere. Therefore, we can conclude that bitcoin is dirty since its generation affects our environment in return.

Obviously not since it is a digital one and can't get dirty. Actually this can prevent more direct contamination of bacteria and a good way to avoid the spread of disease since paper money is considering one of the most dirty things you can have because a lot of people already passed through it and you can't tell where it had been placed.

More precisely we could say that money used for illegal activities can be considered as dirty money. We can never be very sure that money we receive during transactions are prior used only for legal purposes. So does bitcoin, weather the money is either physical or digital we sholdn't have a thought of where the money has travelled before. Many of the institutions have a broken non-sensical thought that bitcoin is being used by terrorism and other parties for transacting anonymously over the internet, but they are not really aware that paper money would also be used for such purposes.

Consider a scenario like, a terrorist is paying a guy for creating nuclear bombs and he pays them by paper money. Does government really know what the particular paper is used for? Similarly btc were used by illegal sites like Silk Road but with the help of an open blockchain we could be able to trace where the money is travelling ATM if someone tries to be a double agent for both the government and the illegal party involved.

The true and primary benifit of bitcoin is to be used as the global currency and to be our own bank. We can transact them anywhere in the world and apart from that we don't need to depend on the institutions to complete the transaction. Based on my experience for being involved in bitcoin for past 3 years from 2016 I have figured two important benifits :

  • Practically speaking, I hold only a limited money in btc and the rest of my btc is used for spending internationally. I would transact very often with people internationally and they do accept btc which certainly saves the insane fees for changing the local currency instead.
  • While I was reading NeuroticFish post, I got a thought on the problem I faced last week while buying goods from a supermarket. I swiped my debit card and the money was withdrawn from my account but the swiping machine gave an error and the store didn't get any payment. I paid through fiat and went to my bank to retrive the money back. The core problem of using these banks is the reversible of transactions and the money being controlled by one single middleman (i.e Banks).

I think another term for "Dirty Money" is coming from scam, fraud, theft, or fake for paper money. And only the first three can only be applied in cryptocurrency and having a paper money is really hassle if you have been change of coins which i really don't like at all.

Making a transactiom using a cryptocurrency is very clean no hassle at all and much faster since you can pay at exact amount. That's why cryptoccurency is the future money we don't need paper money.

I mean in theory if you're going to have to use your phone more often to access your bitcoins, you're going to interact with more germs as well. Yes, it's most likely not to the same degree as paper / coins that have interacted with hundreds of people before you, but it's still something to think about.

But yes, this is a pretty small benefit but it is something to keep in mind.

I don't think it'a selling point of Bitcoin, but it damn sure is an interesting point.

Haha, bitcoin on the other hand has a different kind of dirt associated with it.
Especially since it was used for illegal activities in the past, some people still associate bitcoin with drugs, money laundering, ransomware, etc...
