Obviously it's never going to be extinct. I don't know why you even consider that it can be extinct. Bitcoin is a very strong curreny which has great prospects for future. I have posted a recent thread and that shows bitcoin even went to $3 until it revived back to $19k. I don't know why people are still worried when it's $8k. Bitcoin is here to stay even the governments won't find it that easy to ban crypto because if it would have been that easy it would have already be banned. So chill out it's never going extinct.

Yes indeed bitcoin is a strong currency/speculative asset but how can you assure that it will live long and won't get extinct or beaten by another altcoin in the future. Bitcoin is still vulnerable and the whole system may collapse if a tragic event will happen in the system and the world itself.

I would love to see that Bitcoin will be never destroyed too of course. But I believe that there will be much better cryptocurrencies than Bitcoin in the future and they will overtake Bitcoin I think.

There is a currency evolution over time. It is kind of hard to predict whether bitcoin will be extinct or not at the moment. If we look at bitcoin as a digital currency perspective, bitcoin is a currency that lives on the web so it is hard for bitcoin to be extinct because the internet is here forever but the future is full of surprises.

Extinction only occurs when adoption to the new environment or condition is not met. The faster people adapt to the use of Bitcoin in their financial transactions, the more possible that bitcoin will not go extinct. Blockchain technology will not make Bitcoin go extinct since a lot of companies and groups are now using it as their system platform to manage data collection and all aspect of their organisation ..

After years and years of speculation, There is some prediction about bitcoins future on what will it be in the future. Too much speculation to read, All I know is I need to surf the wave of bitcoin today. Bitcoin will be extinct if no one will give hash to the blockchain network. It will surely be dead but It won't likely be happening given that there are many believers there.

that's possible, but what if one day a quantum computer was created with a qualified Qubit, and was used to solve the bitcoin algorithm, would bitcoin not be threatened? At the moment large developers like Google and IBM are competing to create quantum computers that claim to solve the most complex algorithm calculations like bitcoin.

bitcoin will continue to exist for a long time. but there is a natural law that everything will die. belief in death certainly exists but no one knows, maybe when the entire blockchain is shut down and people change the way they get bigger profits besides cryptocurrencies.

Only general delisting from exchanges and trading floors can in theory stop Bitcoin. And this will be a halt to its development. The Bitcoin network itself cannot be stopped.

Some people have already said that, but I will speak from another point of view, you may have seen that in these years many altcoins have emerged, and the main reason for the emergence of these altcoin is because some people do not agree with the path that bitcoin takes, so which I believe may bitcoin may not be extinct, but your community may be reduced if have a project that is more interesting than bitcoin... so far decentralization and having anonymous creator are the main attractions that lead people to prefer bitcoin, in my opinion. But if have a project that has these characteristics can compete with bitcoin

Blockchain is the ultimate creation, btc is first successful and wonderful outcome. As long as there is use case of btc, it will survive. Each day more and more institurions and people are getting into crypto, mostly in btc. Once most of the criminals used crypto as way of payment but now we are using blockchain into many aspects. We will all become extinct someday. That is the rule no one or nothing is exempted. The earth you are walking on will not even be exempted from it. Bitcoin is a product of a particular age or era in technology, in financial technology to be exact, and as it has a beginning so it will have an end.

This is actually an interesting line of thinking. While humanity and Earth will transform and can die off eventually, it's unclear whether Bitcoin will. You see, the thing is that Bitcoin is built on mathematics, and its existence does not really depend on anything (well, its truth does not). So if Bitcoins are transferred somewhere to a thing in the outer space, they can actually outlive us, humans. At the same time, Bitcoin can die within our lifespan because of some tragical event or technical progress (quantum computer solving the puzzles). It's the kind of question to which we cannot even remotely have a plausible answer.

How is it going to be extinct? Its going to be on the network forever. As long as there is a single user using the coin, it will have some values, be it few cents.
Do you know what consensus is? How is it going to be "higher" in the future? You are probably talking about the price here. Price and consensus isn't the same thing.

Probably, since nothing is permanent, everything changes.

I thought lightning network would be a great help during this time but I find it not that really effective at the moment. The problem of higher transaction fees occur during the bullishness of Bitcoin and people can't do anything about it but to switch to altcoin to send those Bitcoin through their wallet.

There are factors need to be met for Bitcoin to cease existing. 

1.  Miners
2.  Developers
3.  Users and investors
4.  Government

The most important factor would be the miners, if miners stop mining Bitcoin then there will be no one to push the transaction, thus it will initiate the collapse of Bitcoin.
Without any active development due to developer is missing, Bitcoin will be left to being obsolete because of its technology cannot cope up with the latest technology and will be abandoned by its users because there are more user friendly and updated currency out there.
Users and investors, if no one will use Bitcoin then there will be no demand, thus no one will be no transction to be mine and no people to buy the mined BTC.  BTC economy then will collapse.
Government, this play a major role for adoption, but little to Bitcoin being instinct but nevertheless if all the government Banned Bitcoin then the market will collapse and will only be use at the dark web.

In short, at the current state of Bitcoin, there is a rare chance for it to be extinct but I still believe that there is no forever in this world.  When and how Bitcoin will be extinct depends on the stated factor I stated above.  If those 4 agreed to abandon bitcoin then Bitcoin will be dead .

Are you talking about the number of developer that will join the discussion on how to improve Bitcoin?  Well Bitcoin being more popular each day attracts more developer to participate on improving Bitcoin, so yes it will increase its consensus in the future.  If it is a price then most certainly it will due to  decreasing supply and increasing demand.

I do believe same, btc has already been created and introduced to the world and many people already embracing it, just recently I read in a thread that satoshi has been included in the oxford dictionary, meaning anyone can look up the meaning of satoshi from the dictionary,  that's an achievement,
Plus the adoption of btc is spreading more rapidly than before.

Indeed, bitcoin is able to overcome problems through the years and that is why I don't think that bitcoin can be easily pull down because despite of different challenges bitcoin are still able to give opportunities. As time passes by, bitcoin is getting stronger and a lot of people keep on supporting it which makes it more stronger. I know that some of you are in doubt about it but we have to stay positive and believe that it will last forever, bitcoin had changed the life of many of us for the better and that is enough reason to keep on believing.

We really don't know what the future holds, there might be one coin in the future that will challenge bitcoin's dominant or bitcoin will remain as the most recognisable and it is being used by the masses.

That could be a backed up coin by a powerful country and it could be US, China or what, I don't know. I also think that there will be a challenger but as usual since the trust of bitcoin has been increasing all over the time, that challenger coin would find it difficult to push bitcoin outside of its place.

In the future, it could be us that will determine what the people really wants and the gov't shall give authority to it and they have no choice but to adopt it. I'm not thinking about bitcoin's extinction unless some signs are seen.
