Hello all,

Lately, this part of the forum became a collection of crap and garbage, 5 altcoins coming out everyday, a lot of people being scammed, losing time and money, and it just continues like that without nobody reacting.
This is true that we have to be preventive, me and other people learned their lesson, but don't forget that there are new comers that get everyday scammed, lose their time with all these new coins, lose money, and more importantly, lose faith in the cryptocurrencies.

This forum is the heart of the cryptocurrency community, almost everything comes from here, so we need to fix the problem from the source :
I propose something, this is drastic but I don't think there is another solution that can be as effective and quick :

To create a new coin and posting it in the announcement forum, the developper/promoter must respect some standards :
- He must prove why he created it and what is the difference between this and other coins.
- He must prove that he will do something ( projects and all the blabla ) and not just waiting for dumping.
- He must prove a lot of other things (I'm not a professional in this domain, but I'm sure we can set a lot of other standards to respect).

Otherwise : DELETE the thread and BAN the dev.

They are the cancer of this community and all the idea of cryptocurrency, if we let them grow, they will just kill this.

Thank you.

So... Now you want Bitcoin Talk to delete ALTCOIN threads that DON'T meet standards, just because he left out a few lines of text? How will this help Altcoins?

Plus, this is the ALTCOIN section.  Roll Eyes

Thanks also for comparing 'Cancer' to altcoins.

Cancer kills, altcoins don't.

Disagree on every point

Why ?

Don't be hypocrite please. It is called a metaphor, and yes, crappy altcoins kill altcoincs, and if there's more and more everyday, it gets worse, that's the comparison Smiley
Now, it's not because YOU are profiting from this by scamming people, or pumping and dumping, that all people are okay with this. I'm posting this because I know a lot of people that are losing faith in all this and lost a lot money because of all these crap coins coming out everyday. They just don't want to participate anymore because of this "cancer" ( Wink )

let the free markets decide

Don't fool yourself, there is no free market, just big whales and tiny people profiting and losing.

Now I don't understand why you are against control and regulation. This is not a jungle if I'm mistaken....

How would anyone "prove" those standarts?

That's why I'm posting here. This is a general idea that I trowed here, I want people to react and discuss about it, especially the moderators.

Just for example, there are a lot of coins that we can judge very quickly :  no active dev, no posts, the op isn't even properly formated, the ''dev'' is just someone who paid 0.2BTC to create the coin on coingen (Oh I'm making a new enemy maybe...).

I didn't said that the thread must be deleted within the first hour, but it must at least meet a minimum standard, and then following him, if after a day or a couple of days we see that it's not legit, just delete it, why bother with this type of coins and people seriously...

The prevention of "crap coins" and "scam coins" can just be good for the community ( and bad for the scammers .... )

I do realise that you have good intentions. The coins about which you talk (that have inactive devs etc and are "easy" to spot scams) are anyways obvious scams. You can't prevent idiots losing their money. If we authorise somebody to ban such coins, then we have to pay him... and scammers may pay him not to ban them as well.
People should learn to take care of themselves! If we don't want to be treated like sheep, then we'd better stop acting like such ("we" meaning the society).

They are the cancer of this community and all the idea of cryptocurrency, if we let them grow, they will just kill this.

It would be too much work for the mods if they had to check every single altcoin that pops up.
It would be better if people were charged 0.2 BTC to start new threads in the altcoin announcements board, but why should theymos bother working on to automate this (I'm not even sure if it's feasible under this forum software) if it would only benefit the altcoin community? Start your own forum or move to a different forum dedicated to altcoins or to your specific altcoin.

It would be even better if others simply ignored the scammers to disincentive them from creating new altcoins.

Thank you for considering this.
But as I said, it is not only about me or about you or about people with at least a little experience. It's about newbies.
We can treat people idiots because of their lack of experience. Myself and a lot of other peoples got ''scammed'' and lost money and time because of the shitty altcoins.
I managed to get some reticent people into cryptocurrency, but after all this bubble of altcoins, especially after the beginning of 2014, they are saying :
" This is all bullshit... this will never succeed... There's nothing serious... Too many coins here and there... Losing hours to investigate and mining worthless coins.........."

In conclusion, this is causing more harm than good. Stop thinking about only you, think about the future ! We can't base a good future with bad reputation, this is as simple as this.

For the implementation, making people pay to announce may be a good idea, but generally, some coins are backed by rich people that will pump it, so 0.2BTC is nothing for them.
But that's still a good idea that will filter a lot of lazy devs and reduce by at least 50% the problem

Thanks.

Newbies need to read up before diving in. PLENTY of warnings and hard examples are out there and they are easy to find. Many will STILL make a trade with their "trade partner" having multiple negative ratings and it's not limited to just newbies either.
In short: If you want to spoon feed newbies then I am all for it but we don't need more regulations.

When the subject of buying BTC with Paypal comes up, I often remember this:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

It has been debated for months , you're not the first one saying this and this thread is not also the first debating the problem.
If you would have checked it first , most of the mods have already expressed their opinion on this.

Nobody will start doing police work in the altcoin forum.

I strongly disagree. This is a liberal forum, where people can express their opinions, post about their projects without censorship. Regarding scams, the staff have expressed their opinion that the community should police itself to prevent possible abuse.

Tell your friends to ignore the altcoins altogether, and to concentrate on Bitcoin only.

Usually it's hard to do with altcoin threads going around in the Beginners subforum. Are they even allowed there?

I will say one thing if you click your, "Show unread posts since last vist" The amount of [ANN]bullshitcoin, crapcoin, dumbasscoin, ext is very very ridiculous. I can only guess some fool made a opensouce coin code and every stupid newb is doing it just like the ponzi's.

Between the splurge of ponzi's and altcrapcoins, its hard to filter through to find post of substance.
