It's over, Crawford retained his belt.

Kava was only good in the first 3 rounds, and after that, Crawford took over, round ninth stoppage. Would like to see Crawford vs Porter or Crawford vs Spence, it will be explosive, lol.

It's a tactical fight for Crawford here, he have hit with an  overhand right in the third round if I'm not mistaken but the referee rule it out as a slipped. But after that, he has read Kavaliauskas, just looked at how he counters him with his lead right. It was just a jab, but it was that accurate.

He needs to really go and fight the big boys on the other fence Crawford vs Spence is what boxing fans wanted to see.

I wouldn't say that this is a tactical fight, this is more of a cherry pick by Bob Arum to look like Crawford is really that good. As @Baofeng has pointed out, good for three rounds and after that Crawford shows us what he is the champion and elite level.

Kavaliauskas is not on Bud Crawford's level, in paper it looks like he has a chance, but we have seen Crawford psychically breaking him down. He was supposed to be the stronger of the two, but Crawford just push him. And when the pressure starts to mount, Crawford did go for the kill.

Kavaliauskas fought like an old man without hunger to win and desire to conquer an opponent with a huge name. He had the opportunity when he hurt Crawford several times but never did he even tried to follow it up with huge blows. Even after that knock down, which was unfortunately counted as a mere slip by the referee, Kavaliauskas did not even raise his aggressiveness and try to go for the kill. He let the opportunity slip away and he let Crawford recover fully and gain back his confidence.

I agree that it was an even match only as far as the numbers are concerned.

^^ So Arum did a nice set up match for Crawford then, they have promoted the fight as if Kavaliauskas has a chance against Crawford. But this guy has nothing to offer, at least in the first few rounds. I guess when he felt Crawford's power, he just gave up and just think of his nice pay check. Good job Arum, now, I do hope that Arum will set him up against Spence. Because he said he is willing to sit down and talk with Al Haymon. Crawford is already 31, and as a prize fighter, he could be losing his speed every year.

Spence or Porter, either of them would be a good match but Spence is the probable opponent for Crawford since the latter has a belt to defend. Hope their promoters would set aside their pride and let their fighters give what is appropriate for them and besides Crawford is not getting younger.

It's sad to see that my countryman lost, but honestly, he didn't had much chances and he needed little miracle to win. Now Kavaliauskas and Crawford are different level fighters, but I hope that in future he will get another opportunity to fight for belt. Anyway, this fight was historic for our country boxing. It's only shame that none of TV channels didn't show it on TV...

Maybe boxing is not that famous that's why it wasn't shown on your local TV?

Anyways, thanks for the comments, I do hope that some boxing pundits won in this match. Clearly it was not really that close and  it's just a matter of time which round Kava will be KO. So for those who got their prediction right, congrats, Closing this thread now.

Looking forward for Crawford vs Spence.  Smiley
