Theymos said it clear - to get Epochtalk on Bitcointalk we must test it first but how to do it if nobody is willing to do anything?
For all those months all we have are 2 sites running Epochtalk - with this temps, we will mine the last bitcoin before we see it happen.

I take the initiative (again.. as usual) to do something about it so what I came up with is a Media Campaign but I can't do it alone.

IF WE WANT THE NEW SOFTWARE WE NEED TO ADVERTISE IT AND SHOW IT TO THE WORLD otherwise it will only remain as forgotten expensive repository on github.

It's a simple solution, almost everyone have Twitter, Facebook,Reddit, etc. and it takes almost nothing to post once a week just one post.

We are community and we cannot expect theymos to do it all, he made enough now it's our duty as a community to help him spread the word and make it happen.

This is one of the biggest communities, of course we can do it but we have to be together.

I have already posted on my Twitter back in February > https://twitter.com/Criptoi1/status/1100345455878250496

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Seems like a great topic for Meta.  Smiley

I was planning on using Epochtalk, but wasn't sure if my contributions would be appreciated, so instead i went with IPB.

This is an awesome idea.
I think it's high time we started creating awareness about the new forum software. With the exceptions of a few people who always frequent Meta. I am very sure so many people even in this forum do not know about Epochtalk or even the current status of the project.

But we have over 500 members wearing cryptotalk signatures, like we wouldn't love to see a new forum software in place already.

I think we could also use some signatures to create more awareness around the forum for members who are willing to do so. Sometimes when my sig space is free, I can just get the code and don it.

So here is my idea;
Create a thread with signature codes of each rank, probably post it in the services board and then any member who would love to promote the new forum software could just voluntarily update their signature any time they want.

I don't know how to create some decent signatures but i would volunteer to do it

There are two Epochtalk-source-code-based forums:
www.cryptos-currencies
https://coinbistro.com
From what admin disclosed, the Epochtalk forum has nearly finished, but the biggest problems that hinder the transition from bitcointalk.org (SMF) to Epochtalk is data transition and potential problems with data transition. There is another problem that forum so far has been coded and managed by only one person, theymos, so if there are not new members join as core team members to code and manage the forum, I doubt that we will soon see a transition to Epochtalk

Unfortunately, what drives people is profit rather than a contribution to the forum, so I suggest you create a currency (Epochtalk token) and you will find a lot of requests.
Generally, I rarely click on the links on Twitter so it is better to create campaign with certain avatars.
It may be a good idea for the forum to launch a beta version because a third party does not control our IP addresses.

<…>
I’m conflicted here at this stage, simply because I don’t know the real status of the project and it’s road map (yes I’ve seen the Github repository). I obviously tried out Epochtalk and reported what I saw back then, but there was a whole range of functionality that was not there to test, that is key to the current ecosystem on this forum (i.e. merits, trust, etc.). Granted that some of this functionality will not be necessary in many forums that would be instanced from Epochtalk, but I figure that the "ready to use" flag should be raised when Bitcointalk is conceptually viably implementable on Epochtalk. After all, that is one of the key goals.

Even if the software is allegedly substantially ready, I know, by experience, that that phase of being substantially ready can last for a pretty long time. I don´t think it is ready to be functionally deployed yet, and if testing is what it needs, then perhaps a forum banner and/or ad slots inviting forum members to test it further would be a better approach at this point. Ideally though, a testing strategy and checklist should be depicted and published, so everybody knows what to focus on, and what to skip or expect at a later phase. Otherwise, the inputs would be potentially large, chaotic, and not always aligned to testing objectives.

The media campaign is a good suggestion, but I’d make sure that the product is completely ready to go on to that phase. Advertise to the world a software once it’s considered fully ready, but if it’s not, advertising to test it (specially to people outside this forum) may not be best approach yet.

<…>
I did take a look at the roadmap you referenced a week ago or so, but being not tied to dates, I cannot tell how key features on the roadmap are planned in accordance to time. Reviewing it again, some of the planned features are important to enable Bitcointalk to migrate to Epochtalk (perhaps not for other forums that would like to use Epochtalk as their software), and the ongoing currently in development is a neat heavy set of features that, when completed, should drive the software another step closer.
I just don’t believe it is just there yet to be announce to the world (so as to say), but then again I do not have inner information to that effect, nor know if and how many forums have been implemented on the current version (other than those created for testing).

The roadmap is here :
http://epochtalk.org/map.html

What I've seen is that if we do not push the things to happen, they will most likely never happen. It is so huge community and most of the people are here to make profit, well while using the platform for free to make profit you need to contribute to in some way.
Some will say that posting HQ content should be enough to popularize the forum and attract more traffic but this is more important.

Anyway I'll post my tweets and see what happens.

well while using the platform for free to make profit you need to contribute to in some way.

While most of the members here are profits motivated, I would say a large percentage are unaware of the status of epochtalk, and some that are do not know how they can help and/or the challenges that are being faced.
Promoting it here on BT is more primary that doing that in other social media platforms in my opinion.

Pardon me but, in advertising epoch talk, are we encouraging other people to create more forums other than the two that are already testing it? Don't we have enough technical people here who would test the two existing platforms.

A lateral idea would be to apply those same social media channels with a Bitcointalk 10th Anniversary focus. For example, trying to get #Bitcointalk10thAnniversary to become trending topic, by campaigning around the date from all corners of the (forum) world. A couple of weeks to go, but if someone is fluent in the tactical guidelines to follow, it could be worth a shot. Of course it would be way better if it were a forum initiative/objective, in order to get the message out to potential participants, and not just Meta readers.

To me one of the biggest blocking points is mentionned in the planned part of the roadmap:

Quote
Planned Features
Trust System
Activity System
User online system
News Banner
Revised build system
Internal Search Engine
Revised Avatar image handling
Emoji support
Post History
2-Factor Authentication
Hiding/Ignoring Users/Boards/Threads
Subscriptions
Analytics Engine
Markdown Support
User Preference service
Docker Support
Onboarding System

I doubt they will be any migration attempt before the functionalities we have here are supported on epochtalk.
2FA also seems pretty critical.
