Damnit Theymos, I'm an engineer not an artist! It's an actual 3d model I'm working on, still a work in progress. The back of the (virtual) coin is blank still. More to come.  Sweet! Is that Solidworks? I used Mastercam to create mine although all the models that I program at work on MC are imported from Solidworks. I like your knurled edge. After seeing yours I got the idea to "cheat" mine with just lines.  Also I like how you embossed rather than engraved. I actually thought about that after I machined mine. (20/20 hindsight, lol) Weird thing is, I found that after polishing, when I hold the coin up at a certain angle in the light, my brain actually interprets the engraving as raised embossed letters. Good luck with your creation.Cool stuff.  |

It's been a while since I've programmed CNC on a daily basis, these days I'm working with plastic injection molds, and mostly on the design side. That's probably why I defaulted towards the "embossed" design vs. the relieved cuts. Half dozen in one, six in the other. I like the physical aspects of yours vs. the virtual aspects of mine. I have manual machines at home (Monarch 10ee and a Bridgeport,) but I can't justify using the CNCs at work for G-Jobs. Despite all of my years of experience the tool room guys still freak out when they see an engineer touching the machines, lol. |
