According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I will recommend and vouch ledger nano s for you. I've been using this for almost 2 years now and everything is still safe and sound.
About the OTG thingy I can't confirm it because I haven't tried it yet because I don't have  OTG connector for my mobile phone and I mostly do my transactions on just my pc alone.

I've never used a coldcard before. Only ever used and looked in trezor and ledger wallets myself.

I'd recommend a ledger 100 percent. They work great and are very secure and futureproof, but are also cheap and will work well with your needs.

It connects via a usb to micro-usb cable, so since I have a USBC phone, I bring an adapter and I'm able to plug it in and send transactions on the go. Haven't used a laptop in a long time with these features.

I've bought my first Nano ledger 2 years ago and so far I 've never had a problem with it. You just need to secure your private key to make sure your funds are secured. It goes with a cord that you can connect to a PC, but I haven't tried connecting it through my phone.

At first using the app for me as a bit confusing and complicated since I am used in using online wallet which is user friendly. But, with it's complication, it is the best way to secure your funds.

I know ledger has a name but it isn't open source right so anything can happen in the future if btc goes up in price
Ledger's Ledger Live software is open source.

who knows if the card is backdoor idk i just want a reliable safe place to store these two cryptos any suggestions?
As far as I know coldcard is bitcoin only, so you obviously won't be able to store your XMR. With that said, if you're really that paranoid and don't want to trust wallet sellers, simply run electrum on an air-gapped device.

also is it true the nano S can be use also not just from your computer but I can pay on the go with the OTG cables and connect it to my phone with the ledger live app?
Yes you can.

Agreed with that, nano is very useful and effective. I've been also using it for a year and i'm safe. I always use my pc for more secure wallet and to prevent problems or conflict. It is efficient in transactions because it is a trusted wallet, you will have a successful transactions to gain more profit.

Just like the previous comments I also suggest ledger nano S or nano x. Ledger Nano S and X can support almost 1000 cryptocurrency and it can store more coins compared to Trezor and other hardware wallets. Also Leger Nano s and x has a chip inside it and this chip ensures the security of our coins. Almost all of my friends who use a hardware wallet uses ledger nano and according to them it is really convenient and good to use.

I also use nano ledger since I started trading, I save my profit in my nano ledger because I prefer storing it in a hardware wallet than exchange. Its no wonder nano ledger is one of the used hardware wallet in here, it is convenient and its price is much cheaper than any hardware wallet.

Ledger nano s is my best advice for you to use, one of the advantages of hardware wallet is its security. I guess as long as you don't connect your wallet hardware to someone else's device, there's no gap for the backdoor. For direct use on a smartphone device with an OTG cable to operate it on your smartphone device it's true. I've tried it, but for transactions crypto, not to pay goods or services.

Although there's already nano x, I'm still using a Ledger nano S. Don't you worry about it mate, Ledger company has been providing a lot of wallets worldwide and it's been proven that they are a trustworthy wallet.

also is it true the nano S can be use also not just from your computer but I can pay on the go with the OTG cables and connect it to my phone with the ledger live app?
Yes and you can also check the ledger live even your hardware isn't mounted just to check balances and its value.

I guess using your hardware wallet into someone else's device wont harm your wallet, it requires private key and also your PIN or your password you have set to your Ledger nano, I'm also sing one so I know it is safe. plugging it in into someone's device wont easily get your private key.

How can you sing with a Ledger?

Btw, why did you have to use a device that isn't yours in the first place? They might not be able to steal your private key directly but you'll expose your crypto ownership to others. I's as if you're saying "hey, got a bitcoin here, nobody want to steal it?"

About OP, I can also certify that Nano S works well and certainly works with OTG if your phone actually knows what OTG is.
I used it for Bitcoin only for now, with Electrum on computer and with Mycelium on phone.

Ledger Nano S is definitely a good choice, and it has a very good price, which is likely to be even more favorable on Black Friday, which was the case last year. Accordingly, I would advise you to wait a little over a month and save some money on your order. mjglqw is right about Coldcard wallet, it support Bitcoin-only, so there is no longer any doubt.

What you need to know regarding Ledger Live on mobile phones, you need Android 7+ or in the case of iOS 9+ to run this software. Also Ledger Live will not work on Windows 7, Ledger has stopped providing support for this OS for quite some time. But it can be used in combination with Electrum even on that OS.

Another +1 for Ledger here. Last year's Black Friday deal was 50% off, so although it is good to get your crypto off of an exchange/software wallet and on to a hardware wallet as soon as practical, it might be worth holding on a few weeks. It works beautifully with both Bitcoin and Monero.

You can use Ledger Live for Bitcoin, but I would suggest pairing the Nano S to Electrum instead for increased functionality.

Ledger Live does not support Monero, but the Nano S works well with both Monero's GUI and CLI wallets, although these are both desktop only. Obviously the GUI wallet is going to be easier to use unless you are already familiar with using command line interface. You can get these wallets here: https://web.getmonero.org/downloads/.

Apparently Monerujo (a mobile Monero wallet) is compatible with the Nano X, but not the Nano S. I've never used this wallet personally so can't vouch for it.

Most forumer here used and recommend Ledger nano, and I do recommend it too for I am using it for more than 2 years now. So far, I have no problems with the device, and its reliable. You can use your Ledger Nano S with your android as long as you have your android OTG cable AFAIK.

Another supporter of Ledger here, specifically Ledger Nano X. As I have both Nano S and X, I can say that Nano X is more convenient To use than Nano S.

  • You could run more applications if you want to (you probably won't use it, but you would be thankful to have this capability)
  • You could transact any time; you need the device and the smartphone(it is practically the time you could sat that you use crypto say to day)
  • No cable needed

I think there are more but aside from that; both devices are outstanding (the S and X), you would decide if you want portability to transact anywhere or just a wallet in which you would hold and Rarely use.

There are some setups that you need to follow if you are going to use Ledger. Check the link below.

Just like Lucius said, wait for the Black Friday sale. Online marketplaces would be in such a good state.

I've bought my first Nano ledger 2 years ago and so far I 've never had a problem with it. You just need to secure your private key to make sure your funds are secured. It goes with a cord that you can connect to a PC, but I haven't tried connecting it through my phone.
Yeah, I never tried to use my Nano S with my smartphone either and have no need to.

About those cables:  I ran into a problem where I could successfully enter my password and launch Ledger Live and all that, but it couldn't synch and I couldn't open the Neon wallet linked to my Nano.  Turns out that the USB cable I was using was trashed and I didn't know it.  After trying another one, everything worked fine.  Had me baffled for a few hours.

OP, I don't know a damn thing about the coldcard wallet, but I am liking my Nano S a lot since I bought it.  The price is also more reasonable than the Nano X and if you're only concerned about two coins in total, the S sounds like a better buy if you do choose a Ledger.  And judging by the posts here and in other threads, you can probably tell that Ledgers are very, very popular around here.  There's good reason for that--it's an awesome hardware wallet.

Another + for the Ledger Nano S from me as well.
Since you are planning to use it to store only two different coins there is no need to go for the more expensive Nano X version. And even if you change your mind in the future you should be able to install at least 3 or maybe 4 apps at the same time on Nano S unless they update the size of the apps ultimately allowing more app to be installed at the same time.

I guess as long as you don't connect your wallet hardware to someone else's device, there's no gap for the backdoor.
Even if you connect your wallet to an infected computer you will be safe and your private keys will not be leaked.
