Hi, I've been out of crypto for a long time. I left after making the dumb move of not selling during the bubble and told myself I'd come back in a few years which is now.

However, I saw that BCH has split into BCHABC and BCHSV.
And it was a while ago too. I've been gone for a while.

However, I still have BCH Presplit on my ledger nano.
Is there still a way to split the BCH?

Are there any exchanges that could do it automatically?

Thanks

No exchange does it as far as I know
However, there was a discussion on Reddit about it
https://www.reddit.com/r/bitcoinsv/comments/bm8h6o/splitting_bchbsv_stored_on_a_ledger_nano_device/
There are probably other ways. I know that if all the coins are in 1 address sending post fork coins (either BCH or BSV) to that address and sending all of that will prevent it from being broadcast on the other chain because the coins do not exist on the other chain.

i.e. you have 1 BCH in address "X" you send .000001 BCH from coins that were mined post fork to address "X" you then send 1.00001 BCH to a new address.
BSV will not be sent because the 1.00001 in the transaction does not exist on that chain.

You can still do it by following these steps. As I have read, splitting is safe, but still be careful with your actions Wink

I am not into BCH so I cannot give you direct answer, but you should first of all understand what you do. You cannot "split old coins at an exchange". Simply for the same private key and address, if you are on BCH network you'll have BCH and if you are on BCHSV network you have BCHSV. Remember that the wallet only handles the private keys, it doesn't actually hold coins.
So basically you'll have to send to a new address the more expensive coins, then switch to another wallet (another network) and send away the less expensive ones.
Also, if you expose private keys from your ledger, I advise you move all the coins away and reset to a new seed; it's for the safety of your coins.

Also watch out for the people who will PM you now to offer to do it for a 10% fee. A lot of my friends got this email and they actually used the service and lost all those so-called FREE coins.

These scammers will ask you for the private key for those addresses and they will take the coins and give you some stupid reason why the forked coins could not be extracted, but when you eventually try to do this on your own, then you realize that they already swept those coins.

So, just be careful and do not give Private keys to strangers.  Roll Eyes

This isn't unusual in any way, once they are able to detect or are sure one is not too knowledgeable on the network/system and what to do, they make such users their primary target, no doubt op may get one or two private messages on this, but right now it's up to him to fall for it.

You must remember that "if you're not solely in possession of your private keys, then the coins isn't yours", this is not just a catchphrase we say here every now and then, it's the fact.
You'll be better of not splitting your coins, than losing them all for sure  Grin
