HTC, one of the leading technology based development company has come up with the first cryptophone EXODUS 1S which is completely focused on the cryptocurrency users. The importance it gained is through running a complete bitcoin node allowing to confirm and validate transactions. The smartphone configuration is not that attractive, but mentioning it a cryptophone adds value to it.

HTC has finally listened to the mass and this 1S series is much cheaper than the previous one, i.e. Exodus 1. But running a full bitcoin node is easier said than done. Here's the catch,

Quote
Running a full bitcoin node on a phone comes with its limitations. HTC recommends that you connect the phone to Wi-Fi and plug it into a power source while it’s running the full node, and you’ll also need to buy an SD card with a capacity of 400GB or more if you want the phone to be able to hold a full copy of the Bitcoin ledger. The Exodus 1S will also not be able to operate as a mining node.

Reference: https://www.theverge.com/2019/10/21/20924520/htc-exodus-1s-full-bitcoin-node-blockchain-phone-budget

Doesn't really makes sense!

that's absurd! why would anybody want to run a full node on their smart phone?
a bitcoin full node requires your phone to be connected to the internet for long periods of time (if not constantly) and download/upload a lot of data per day. that is not something a phone battery could do no matter how powerful it is.

also do you know what client they have installed on the phone? is it something they created or a project that already exists or is it just theoretical?!

It signifies that cryptocurrency is slowly being adopted, and now reached even the smartphone industry. It offers more publicity and awareness to the people about crypto and introduces the term to them. It also implies that crypto won't be gone too easily and has great potential of becoming the next mode of currency, aside from digital fiats. However, it does not do anything rather than help the bitcoin network validate transactions faster. It's like donating time and resources for the future of bitcoin, but it's not that feasible since running a full node on a PC is much better and faster than on a phone.

Storing my funds on something that's in my pocket/hand every single day? That's a no for me dawg. This is ridiculously unnecessary in my opinion. Also, what's the advantage of this compared to just using ABCore?

Also, it's funny how media news sites are calling this a "blockchain phone".

I don't believe that the HTC approach to cryptocurrencies will make any actual waves. I'd buy the phone maybe on lack of other hardware to run a bitcoin full node, but rather than that I don't see why would I use it instead of a regular smartphone with more powerful specifications like iPhone or Samsung..

If Im a regular bitcoin user with a bitcoin wallet on my phone installed that can be use everyday to pay for my friends and to online stores that accepts bitcoin do I have to purchase another phone like this that can run a node? Is there any importance or advantages of using it? I think its not so practical using this kind of phone in my point of view, just a waste of money.

If you want to run a node, just run a node on your computer and store only a small amounts on your mobile wallet. Just like pooya87 said, running a node on your mobile phone is taking it a bit too far unless you find it ok for your phone to be frequently syncing, as it's going to drain your data limit and battery.

As for running a node, take it from the man himself, Andreas Antonopoulos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX0Yrv-6jVs (P.S. There is no financial incentive to run a node if that's what you're thinking).

I really like the goal of HTC in making thise cryptophone. During an interview chen said  the firm sees an opportunity to reinvigorate the smartphone market with crypto-friendly features, particularly for people with restricted access to the financial system." This means that HTC has the heart for poor individuals who has poor access to the financial system. Though I am a bit a doubter in terms of the phone capacity to mine bitcoin. Though it can run a full node given its ram of 4gb but its power capacity is not enough, possibly you will need always to recharge your phone which is very inconvenient to do. I just hope that this phone is profitable and can really help the poor community.

The way I read on the news is that this phone is soon coming to the market. I think we have the same reaction. I was assuming that running a full node can benefit someone who owns the gadget with this program option but there is nothing to be gained there. Maybe it is just the idea that you are now part of something trendy like the blockchain and Bitcoin and therefore what you are holding in your hands can be very valuable. As a consumer of a smartphone, I would not change a brand just for this feature...maybe be able to mine Bitcoin is much better though it is currently impossible. Or maybe it would be better if they can connect it to a current and existing project where the phone can mine the altcoin. Just using the word blockchain or even Bitcoin will not be giving any value at all if the user will not get anything...no rewards.

there is a misunderstanding about what is reported in many newspapers about new full-node CRYPTOPHONE.
It's not the main feature of that phone but it's a good marketing title.
For the average user: there is no benefit of running a full node wallet but for the company, it's a real test of the hardware capability of the device.
These are some of the features of the device:

Quote
Zion crypto wallet
Secure Enclave
Social Key Recovery (key sharding)
dApps (decentralized apps)
These are the features that made the new phone a CryptoPhone.

There are actually advantages of running your own full node. When you run your own full node, you are literally your own bank. When you use most common wallets like Electrum, though they're trusted, you're merely trusting a third party in some way. You have more security(assuming you store your private keys in a secure manner) and privacy when running your own full node. Not because they don't pay you, it doesn't automatically mean there's nothing to be gained.
