Hello fellow trader's & btc miner's ,today i decided to post little thread about what is working for me over the past days.
I decided to experiment with recoevering of copper within most elctrical device. Picking & breaking up of most abandon electronic's device, could yield consistent income. This is because about 70%-80% of most electrical component's contain copper.

=>The demand for copper is high within it's niche just like Gold<=

So, i and my friend (Daniel) decided to give this a trial in rome. We started picking up abandon wire's,electrical device within our zone.
separating copper from the external plastic wrapping for recovery of copper.

At first, my friend (Daniel) taught is boring for us to spend so much amount of time gathering reasonable amount of such electrical device, $ separating the copper wire from the adpater or removing the copper from it's motor in case of electrical fan until i stumble across the possible of make more cash in form of bitcoin just by gathering most of these stuff. Shocked

The most rewarding aspect of this project, is the fact that we are helping to prevent enviromental pollution by gathering & separating most fo these stuff in which the govt. of any country are willing to reward any register organization who can present proof. of payment paid to private individual's (both registered and unregistered) in an effort to save the planet.   Note : we are not yet registered as an organization since, we've been able to gather a limited amount of this stuff but, we hope to be a part of this in future.

Guyz, i will like to know your taught, comment's in regard's to this. Has anyone in this forum mad monet by trading bitcoin for copper vice-versa. pls, let me know some of your challenges?

For me, i'm really excited about this whole stuff. just the fact that this could help introduce most people who are into buying & selling of copper around the world to know the existence of bitcoin. Cheesy

Note : you donot need electricity or expensive start-up equipment to start unlike the necessary equipment which are required when establishing bitcoin mining farm.

Thanks

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

The best I could find is the Bitcoin physical coins that are made from copper. I couldn't find any marketplace that facilitates this type of transaction. Selling copper for fiat is still the mainstream way to trade copper.

I don't think that's a practical sales venue for recycled copper.  Coining (the manufacturing process used to make coins) requires blanks that are already the shape of a coin and need to be a specific size, with relatively tight tolerances.  The size of the blanks is dependent on the features of the finished coin.

Selling copper for physical cash seems to be the only option that you may have here, people do that a lot in my country but the difficult thing is finding old and abandoned electrical  devices for the the copper. You can try aluminum as well as long as you can find the people who are willing to buy them. Kudos for trying to save the environment. I am sure if their were buyers for plastics you would have made a lot of money.

Bravo! What you guys are doing is practicaly called waste management business. Even though you guys are focusing only on copper now, but I am sure you will slowly explore the option to extract more type of metals from the electronin waste. Do you know you can even extract gold from smartphones and computers?

Reading below article can give you some motivation,

https://blog.dell.com/en-us/how-much-gold-is-in-smartphones-and-computers/

I personally have never sold off copper or any other precious metals for bitcoin. But I hope to see you forming a waste management company that accepts bitcoin as a payment! All the best!

I've been HODLing copper for a few years, and I've even posted about it on Bitcoin Talk.I also save lead. It isn't as valuable, but the weight/volume ratio is good. It's called urban mining, and I've got some tips for separating copper/aluminium radiators and a few other things as well.

I've also got a few dustbins full of old circuit boards and hard drives, and I keep meaning to huntfor Bitcoin wallets on the hard drives.

you yourself or asking others to go around scavenging for scrap electronics costs alot of time.
knocking on doors hoping someones home. then if they are having to introduce yourself, explain why your knocking and asking if they have any unused electronics.. even if they did most people wont hand them over because of many reasons.

the best option is to use the towns garbage recycling system. ask them if you can manage the metals part. get them to make electronic disposal part of their collection offering to the town.  that way your using their staff for the foot work and your employees can concentrate on the smelting.

that said. copper is still not that profitable. if you work it out the time to unscrew a device and pull out the copper vs the weight cost makes it expensive to run.. there are more things in the world that earn more per kg.

heck. people think oil is expensive but a 42gallon drum for $55 is cheap compared to milk.
1gallon oil = $1.31
1gallon milk $5.44

sometimes even if you think copper is 4x aluminium in price per weight. the availability, the scavenging costs make copper more than 4x to acquire thus on resell not as profitable as aluminium

many have tried scavenging gold from phones but the amount in the phone minus the time to get at it makes it more expensive to 'mine' than say offering a baked bean tin recycling service to a town.

so in short
just think about the costs of running and operating.
in the UK no one wastes time on electronic devices. and it only kinda breaks even on copper plumbing pipes(more copper+less time to scavenge) yet the baked bean can recycling is bigger business where 99% of what comes in gets recycled.

last point. what will you do with the scrap plastic after ripping out the copper metal from electronics. most plastics end up needing special licences/permits to melt down or dispose of, which adds to the costs. (hense copper plumbing pipes is the main/only sustainable scavenging item)

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Governments should make it mandatory to recycle. Selling and collecting rare metals from trashed electronics seems that it will take far too long to get anything worthwhile. Where would you get used electronics from? Offer to buy them from people at an electronic scrapshop? That might be an idea. You could run your own ICO and called it scrapcoin or something. It will have a purpose and use and backed by the shop unlike most of the total trash that comes out this coin will be lyrally about trash and profiting from it. xD

Intel CPUs used to contain more gold, in the Pentium era, but they later reduced it at a minimum to shrink costs.

In my country copper stealing is a rampant criminal activity, often public lightning is out because someone always steals the wires to get the copper. It probably started with scraps... The police/military confiscates anyone in possession of copper, as its often from theft. Sometimes they cut fiber thinking (or hoping) its copper, then many blocks end without landphones/internet for months or years.

It must be nice to live in cities where people leave the copper lying around for anyone to pick it up...

One thing you don't mention is that there are very hazardous chemicals involved, for example in the gold extraction thing, not sure about copper. Recycling does have an ugly side, which is why people should aim reduce their garbage first...

Would love to be part of this. But I do not really like the idea of selling to the governments. Governments could stop buying them whey they run out of money or change their minds. Would be great to sell directly to people who need them.

I have even thought about having a small recycling plant to recycle things like that especially plastic, metals/copper then sell to people for crypto-token that is made specifically for waste recycling... I pay for their scraps with the Crypto-token and people will basically acquire the crypto-token to buy the finished products I sell.

I have seen lots of people picking varieties of metals from people's bin and refuse dumps. I guess they are paid to do this or they sell to companies/individuals?

In my country "Copper theft" is a huge problem. The people are even putting their lives on the line to cut live electric copper cables and then burning it down to sell it to scrap yards. They even rip the copper water pipes and fittings that feeds water to some households and leave the water running for hours.  Angry Angry

In India this is big business and a lot of people are salvaging precious metals from electrical devices, but it is dangerous, because the burning of this, gives off poisonous gasses that are very harmful to those people. <Just be careful, if you burn it yourself>  Wink

Copper recycling can be a good business especially if you are living in or near an industrial or highly urbanized area as certainly there can be many gadgets and appliances that are already discarded. Here in my country, some children are involved with recovering copper from wires and appliances and they are usually selling their hoards to local junk shop dealer. Recycling generally is a good business and as many of us here are saying: "There is money in garbage, someone's refuse can be money to another."

Of course, since getting into Bitcoin mining can be a costly enterprise and if the cost of power can be higher compared to other areas then scavenging and recycling can be a good option. Maybe the best thing to do is make money in garbage material recovery and then just buy Bitcoin from profits.

Lead?
The prices here are 50$ for 99% lingots of 25kg. If we talk about scrap prices it's around 1.2$ per kg.
Of course, it's heavy as hell and does save a lot of space but....I would stick to something that doesn't require a pick-up truck to transport something worth the equivalent of one week wage.

In India this is big business and a lot of people are salvaging precious metals from electrical devices, but it is dangerous, because the burning of this, gives off poisonous gasses that are very harmful to those people. <Just be careful, if you burn it yourself>  Wink

I had one case when we were called because of some gypsies burned rubbish that had PCB (biphenyl) in it, god knows from where did they get that much trash the first medics that arrived at the scenes couldn't do much because they weren't equipped with any kind of protection for such fumes.
And we were in the EU at that time, I imagine in India is pretty worse from what I see in documentaries.

Now back to the op

Do you want to trade waste copper for bitcoin?
It really doesn't matter what choice of payment you will use, buyers will look for the cheapest price, seller for the highest, and international stuff...the cost of transport will be killing you.

How much is it worth? Is it worth holding? Doesn't it just take up a bunch of space?

It depends on how much you have got. I doubt if I have got more than £5,000 worth, so it isn't a problem, and it is part of my asset diversification programme.  You can reduce the storage requirement by flattening copper pipe, and "top and tailing" copper cylinders so that you can flatten and store the sides. Stripping copper wire is a simple and mindless task, and you can do it whilst you watch Bitcoin videos on YouTube. There is a slight downside - if you strip copper wire, then you end up with bright wire, and this is probably the most valuable category for scrap copper. Unfortunately if you store it, then it dulls and drops a category, and this is slightly less valuable.

Stealing copper that is part of the infrastructure creates massive costs for the community, and you should do everything you can to reduce it, and to ensure that any thieves are caught.

My impression was, that he is up to incorporate some sort of governmental eco-plan in to his business model.
That's what, in an essence, ecology became these days. It's not really about the toxicity of our biosphere but about making money out of taxpayers pockets... Small scale recycling, without the usage of crypto, may have a chance for bringing more than solo mining.
However it will have zero positive impact on the environment, just like you noticed, raw methods of separating resources from trash (fire), may even worsen our situation. Conclusion: pipe dream.

so in short

This is also what I thought.  I have seen several people in my country (Philippines) scavenging for copper, and I see their troubles in removing those wire covers and effort in gathering these scraps.  For those who have the money, they would choose Bitcoin mining because it is more convenient to them.  They just need to setup, plug and configure and its done.  While scavenging for copper requires a lot of physical activities and it offer less profit.  sadly our government is not focused in this kind of eco friendly activity so people who are doing this kind of stuff have less support.

@CryptoBry,

"...There is money in garbage, someone's refuse can be money to another....."

I guess before the formation of ebay most people do not know that they can actually make profit just by selling unwanted object  occupying most of their useful space.

Well, in italy disposing off unwanted object can be challenging to most family.  Dispite the possibility of putting those object on ebay or amazon most people just prefer someone who can volunteer with truck to pick most of these stuff. A major part of these people are willing to tip you just to deposit the material in some safe enviroment.

Thanks
